Oh yea. I do remember that. I was able to get it to run but didn't know what the hell I was doing and couldn't get past the opening scenario. You start in a village and dark elves are pillaging. I know you eventually head into the Underdark and meet Drizzt. But I never got that far.

Apparently:

Str: damage/armor
Dex: crit chance/damage
Con: HP and stamina/stamina Regen
Int: Elemental Damage, Condition Penetration, Cooldowns
Wis: Resistance
Cha: increase charge rate of Ultimate, increase Proximity radius

Cattie is the one with decent mental stats.

Also they included alignment but everyone is Chaotic Good except Bruenor, Neutral Good.

Not sure why they bothered.

Combat is a little weird, gotta get used to locking on.

Also preset 2 seems more logical: x and y to attack instead of the right trigger/bumper.

He had a ruby necklace that could cast Suggestion, that was it.

Later on he learns Alchemy but this is WAY before that.

So far I am not a fan of the autosave system.

Apparently it involves short rests and skipping them improves loot, but I've died a dozen times and keep having to start the level from the beginning because the first one is right after the first fight, I skipped it, and I still haven't found another

That was a major kick in the dick, but I got him eventually.

I'm probably gonna lower the difficulty a bit, or try online eventually.

I need some health regen or life steal, then I'll be happy.

Got a pretty dope purple chest piece from the first part.

One baffling design choice is not letting you change gear in a dungeon, so I couldn't equip anything until I got back to camp.

Leaving the dungeon early deletes all equipment gained on that run.

Knocked it down a level and life went MUCH better in the second stage.

Don't know if the levels, the gear, or the lowering one tier made the difference.

Or Duergar are weaklings.

Me too. And I don't get it. D&D is a big license and has a ton of fans with a long history. Why have we gotten crappy games from 3rd rate developers for all these years? Was the last good game Neverwinter Nights 2?

I assume Baldur's Gate 3 is going to set things right, but I really liked the first 2 Dark Alliance games. Even more fun playing co-op with my friends on the couch at my house. Not trying to match up with random online dummies.

Good to see you're enjoying it. I watched a dude on youtube and the game was riddled with problems. It was enough for me to give up on the game. I, too, am a bit of a Salvatore fanboy.

I haven't run into any major issues.

The only major complaints are the inventory, camera, and stamina system.

Like imagine Dark Souls but every time you do a power attack your stamina bar shrinks.

Admittedly I'm supposed to parry to mitigate that but I suck at parrying in literally every game in which it is an option.

I read some more reviews and it seems people are indeed enjoying the game as you are. Maybe the early negative reviews were part of a cool thing to do or something, or maybe the earliest reviewers played a crappy version. I'll keep an eye on this; I might be swayed yet.

Part of it is due to the AI being broken. Like "stand in front of them for 5 seconds as they lifelessly stare back at you" broken. Putting that aside though, the game is firmly in the territory of "Wait to purchase this for $10 a year from now on a sale". The game sort of shoots itself in the foot because the stages are designed with multiplayer in mind, but the player base is likely to be a ghost town 100 days from now.

I'm still shocked they didn't at least work on some kind of local co-op mode, especially if they balanced the game with multiplayer in mind. I mean, if it was a PC only game I might understand. But Dark Alliance 1 was pretty popular on the original Xbox and PS2 and everyone I knew played it local co-op.

Eh, depends on how much they respect the Gate.

Like if they just pulled the name out of a hat that's one thing, but if the team legit played and loved the series then this is more building something with the tools at their disposal.

I'm getting a little better at parrying. Still hate verbeeg.

Also I've pulled off a grand total of one Execution.
