Dude I've been around longer than you have. Neither statement he made was extreme, both are pretty accurate. How many games do you know that are approaching 40 years old where the core gameplay of all the best editions is nearly identical to the original?

Tetris is as close to a perfect video game as it gets. There is not an element of it's design that is superfluous or wasted. It could be picked up by an alien with 0 cultural knowledge of Earth and be played. The score system provides a risk/reward incentive, the speeding up provides a difficulty curve, it uses ever possible combination of tetriminos and couldn't work with any other blocks. There's no color element to fuck it up for accessibility. There is ZERO fat on Tetris. It is near-flawless from a technical standpoint.

Any individual block puzzle game has never surpassed the core of Tetris, and certainly not a single falling block puzzle game is anywhere near Tetris Effect alone.

+companions were strong in personality
That being said, I feel like aside from guns, the other weapon types weren't improved or supported as much, the DLCs are a mixed bag, and half the factions in the main game weren't given much thought or support. And of course, it did have its fair share of bugs/glitches/freezing.

i asked what point it will rotate around. it can't be the literal middle of the tetromino because then it'd be in-between columns after rotation.
there's like 4 possibilities of where exactly the tetromino could reasonably be after rotation (regardless of which direction it's rotated in)

• left 2 columns with one block being above the picture
• left 2 columns with one block being below the picture
• right 2 columns with one block being above the picture
• right 2 columns with one block being below the picture

"What point will a shape rotate around?" will be answered once your rotate once in the game.

Gotta agree with Megaman X, the Zero series is solid but not flawless or revolutionary like X1.

Actraiser would be an easy sell but the city building isnt as interesting as you all think because its the same everytime, so it's just a chore your umpteenth run through the game.

Im going with... Final Fantasy Tactics, its an easy pick but there isn't a single SRPG that doesn't wish it was FFT. It has flaws but the engine is the ideal baseline mechanics.

Theres the job & skill systems, the 3 turn permadeath to fix critical hit BS unlike Fire Emblem, the CT system to mix up turn order and spellcasting; being able to move & act in any order and get your turn faster if you don't is a failure of so many other SRPGs. AoEs are so fun in an SRPG, why do so many shy away from them? Five characters per a battle is just right, using a dozen in FE is too many without Awakening's pairup.

The storyline too; Delita goes through such an amazing & tragic arc.

The Darkness

RE7 was amazing tho, as its own thing. But in terms of like dark first-person shooter narratives with a fresh spin on already spun material, I think thats still sort of the peak in my book. Bioshock also comes to mind, but it really just didnt hit the same notes for me. Its more of a thinker than a thriller. Also, Metroid Prime, Mirrors Edge, Dishonored, Amnesia, Outlast, Call of Cthulhu, etc ~ There may be some suitable title out there that I havent played tho, so, just from my experience. Of course, then the sandbox rummaging games took over & battle royale stuff made its comeback , so we dont see as many big titles like that.
