Which system has better RPGs

Tough choices.

Snes has Crono Trigger, FF6, and Secret of Mana.
GBA has Golden Sun, Pokemon RSE FRLG, and Tactics Ogre.

thoughts?

Dude it's FF6 and Chrono Trigger

The others don't compare; you're talking masterpieces of the JRPG genre. I still play both to this day and would only consider FR:LG for an updated nostalgia kick. Tactics Ogre was on the Super Famicom and is therefore just a port, no?

To be fair

all the "great SNES RPGs" I've played were the GBA ports ;>_>

GBA's library is pretty lackluster. Golden Sun, Pokmon.. does FFT:A count? Those are the main original ones that come to mind, then there's more obscure stuff like Riviera which is lauded but it's just a dating sim. Widen the definition and you can include things like Zelda and Fire Emblem... which are matched pretty well by SNES equivalents. I suppose if you count Metroidvanias as RPGs (which at least one CEman does), that's one niche where GBA wins out. But I don't really think any GBA titles can match games like FF V-VI, Chrono Trigger or Romancing SaGa 2-3.

Out of those choices, SNES. If any system could rival, and imo is better, it's the PS1. Chrono Chross, Final Fantasy 7-9, Final Fantasy Tactics (strategy rpg) Legend of Dragoon, Suikoden 2, Xenogears, Breath of Fire 3-4, etc.

Definitely SNES.

The handheld JRPG game didn't really take off until the DS and PSP.

There's some good ones on GBA for sure, but SNES definitely takes this.

Pretty much. Even counting the SNES ports as GBA games, the SNES has more where they came from.

I do love MMBN, Pokemon is Pokemon, Golden Sun is decent, and Mother 3 is supposed to be great (still have to play it). Other than those (and the ports, and SRPGs if you count them), what's left? Shining Soul? Sword of Mana? They're not exactly well thought of.

No, he's saying it was on the PS1 like all the other games on that list.
