Umm... what's the difference in quality between a .STL and an .OBJ

I never worked with STLs before, but I've used OBJ in 3D Max for, like, 20 years... but I get the feeling this is like asking the difference between a .PNG and a .JPG, I'm too oldhog to understand the answer

My Google fu suggested I search for the unintuitive string "stl vs obj" which immediately returned on the first page,

STL files store a model as many small triangles, while OBJ files are more flexible and can use different polygons as well as freeform curves. OBJ files can also store color and texture, which makes them ideal for multi-color 3D printing.

Further, the Wikipedia page for STL

STL files describe only the surface geometry of a three-dimensional object without any representation of color, texture or other common CAD model attributes.

It would appear you have no reason to go with STL if you're already comfortable with obj
