The controls are fantastic, but game design itself (and the weird frame rate problems with visuals that don't really justify those problems) seems a bit off. It's definitely the exact game I wanted, so this isn't really a complaint in so much as it is more of a concern that Nintendo could have probably done so much more with this game if it had more polish.

Also the EMMIs are not really scary - they're just annoying. But I do absolutely love how they're an obvious reference to the original Alien film, which Metroid itself owes so much to.

Sounds more like a problem with the Switch than anything. Nintendo would have designed Dread based on their latest hardware. Expect a new system announcement soon.

Thing is, Dread really shouldn't have these kinds of frame rate problems with the visuals it has. They're stylistically simple, which I actually like a lot, but there's just not a lot there to justify the system's issues.

It was really good, but you are right. I had frame rate issues and really bad screen tearing sometimes.

What frame rate problems?
Well some effects update at half framerate. And every once in a while (probably a few times a playthrough) the frames will randomly drop then stabilize again. Also scenes are at 30.

The lack of anti-aliasing was a pretty bad choice with the visual style the game uses, which is heavy on contrast.

Ive noticed no frame rate problems, except the fire effects are 30fps for whatever reason. The elevator scenes also lag a little bit but its whatever because theyre loading screens.

People keep forgetting were dealing with a dire chip shortage. 4K Switch might have happened even, if we werent dealing with covid. This is the same reason why you cant get a PS5 or Xbox Series console.

The Switch is weaker than the Xbox One. Think about that.

I know. Theres a few titles like Mario Odyssey & Octopath that look nice & native, but most everything else Ive played has been choppy like theyre just squeezing blood out of stones before they finally buckle under a streaming service to some glorified high(ish) end PC.

I mean, it was made by MercurySteam, not an internal Nintendo team.

This is why I was very disappointed at the lack of Switch Pro... sigh

I was putting off playing Hyrule Warriors AoC until something came out that could run it, but idk. Maybe I'll just play at those single digit frames.

Yeah I'd almost say it's mediocre. I have enjoyed it so far though. Gets pretty tough at some spots. Worth the money.

The only time Ive seen the frame rate dip is during elevator sequences, and those are just loading screens. Not really sure what youre talking about, unless this is a handheld mode thing. Ive only played docked.

More generally the demo felt a little like shit to play between the very low resulting and generally poor frame rate.

Everyone talking about framerate and performance issues should look at Three Houses. That is the prime example of terrible graphics and loading.

Some of the game elements like lava and X parasites are just... incredibly ugly, mono-colored, brightly glowing liquids. It feels really out of place. The way the storytelling is done through text boxes at the start feels super budget as well.

I liked the game but it doesn't feel like it's up to date with what you'd expect from a modern game in a lot of regards.
