Had the most fun I've had with the series since I was like 10 years old tonight. So much joy, despair, and most importantly, petty grudges from earlier turns.

I think a big thing missing from Super Mario Party is actively screwing other people. Those mechanics make the whole experience more personal.

Yeah, I played with four people on a couch. Very important part of the experience, but the online is good so I think this would be fun over discord.

Just got it, and did one game yesterday. Had a blast! Super Mario Party was a good step for what the future could hold (character dice, allies, etc.), but boy does it feel good to play a Mario Party that had a formula we haven't seen since Mario Party 8 (and in my case, the last time I really cared for the formula was 7).

If you had to ask me, I think we need bigger boards like what this Party gave us, allies, dice that amount to more than just numbers (as Super's big weakness with character-specific blocks is that some characters were boring to play due to how lame their dice were), a return to duel and Bowser minigames along with a story mode and a side-mode like Bowser's Party (as much junk as the car mechanic was, MP10 showed a good use of it with Bowser Party. That was all I played, and it so few boards and minigames; imagine a version of that, that was more fleshed out!)

I don't really consider Superstars MP12 since it's more of a remix (albeit, a really well-made remix), but when MP12 comes out, it just needs to take the good from 1-8, some ideas Super gave, and even some from 9-10 (again, basically Bowser Party) and it'll be gold.

Super definitely has some good stuff in it. There should probably be a limit to allies tbh (maybe just one or two), and I think an alternate mode with the character dice would be a good idea, but I think a central mode where the dice are all the same.

I've watched some streams and this might be one of the best online experience in a Nintendo game. Only a couple hitches over a couple 15 turn games. Lots of search options too, and a good lobby system.

Yes you can. The one joycon problem of Super Mario Party is not a thing, which is also an improvement.

Let me put it this way: did you enjoy the boards from Mario Party 1-3? Do you enjoy Mario Party minigames from 1-10 (with an emphasis on 1-3 I hear as well)? Do you like pure button-control minigames (no gimmicks involved)? If your answer was yes to those questions, then you have your answer if this game is worth getting. 100 minigames is a lot (Super Mario Party may have had more technically, idk how much it boasted. They included rhythm and team games, though, so in reality, actually party mode had a lot less).

5 vs 4 boards. Can actually use a controller rather than being forced to do one joycon. It has the benefit of just getting to select the best of the best from 10 Mario Party games so naturally it's mini-game selection will be better. Boards feel like they have more oomph to them. Most of all, I think people are just happy to see the classic formula brought back since Mario Party 8 was the last one to use this style of 1-10 dice, boards of this style brought back, duel games, Bowser games, etc.

I like Super Mario Party, but that's a game you get burnt out fast from since it's selection of mini-games is meh and there's only 3 boards worth playing (most people agree Kamek land is garbage).

Imo the secret sauce is being able to screw over other people hard, and bowser spaces randomly robbing you of stars.

IIRC, you could lose coins a lot more easily in MP1 (pretty much in all the 1v3 games at least). That being said, there's still plenty of "destroy your friendships" screw-overs in this one.

I picked it up Saturday for $50 at Walmart. It's very good I'm pretty addicted. I agree that this one really has you messing with other people which SMP didn't really do. My wife was furious at me on the first map due to constantly moving the star

My wife and I both targeted the AI Birdo with Boo's Star Steal. And then Birdo landed on a Bowser Space and got another Star stolen.

It was glorious.
