I loved the original so much back in the day. Really excited to finally play the remake.

The combat was pretty flashy for an ARPG at the time. It was pretty entertaining but not terribly difficult, even at the hardest setting.

The combat is fun.

That's pretty much it.

It's similar to dragon age inquisition in that it's effectively a single player MMO. Lots of mindless fetch and kill quests, with only a handful of story bits.

Never played it, always looked generic as hell to me. I remember it being mentioned along with Dragon's Dogma often back then for some reason and Dogma had some of my favorite combat from that gen. Might take a look for free.

Whoever mentioned it with Dragon's Dogma should be slapped. It's exactly what it looks like to you. Generic repetitive and boring

it was weird that this guy at work hates CRPGs and loves traditional D&D and then recommended Kingdoms of Amalur to me. It was like the most offensive parts of MMORPGs forced into a singleplayer experience.

Yup, just like dragon age inquisition, but at least inquisition as it is now is worth a go if you haven't played it before. Amalur isn't bad, it's pretty fun to play, but it's quests are awful. When you learn that they were working on an MMO Amalur game, and that this game was meant to introduce the world and set up the mmo, it makes sense why this game is an MMO single player.

Pretty fun combat, but the game dragged on for way too long and was very repetitive, moreso than most other similar RPGs.

Amalur gets lumped in with D&D because it's story was partially written by R.A. Salvatore, the most famous D&D story writer(who's also done other fantasy stories in games and books).

Thing is, his influence is negligible. It feels like his name is just there to give the game legitimacy. The story is bland and nothing great. Dragon Age inquisition had similar issues, but at least it's story content was actually solid for the most part(particularly the dlc).

Interesting, I didn't even know there was a D&D connection at all, even if it was tenuous at best. I think this guy just hated video game RPGs because they are too limiting... but he loved this one for some reason.

Honestly, it has as much in common with Elder Scrolls, given that one of the other big name creators was Ken Rolston

Downloaded it and played it for a bit. I never did finish it before, only got 75%ish of the way through, I was a might/finesse hybrid. I'm full sorcerer now as I read that's the most fun, and already it's seeming that way. I'm enjoying the combat a LOT more. Staff and chakrams, and magic. So much fun. And having protection bubble up all the time is easy to do and still have good mana with a sorc.

Gameplay is still piss easy mmo type content, but it's fun enough knowing it's free.

Also, it's kind of lame how long load times still are considering this is a remaster of a 2012 game released in 2020.

They're about 20-30 seconds sometimes.
