if workers feel like they are burned out, that's probably because the consumers want instant gratification, and not just because their bosses are jerks.

Do we really need Walmart open 24/7? Whose fault is that, really?

My proposal: maybe we should go back to having nearly all shopping outlets (perhaps most venues, for that matter) closed on Sundays.

Walmart workers have to be there even when the store is closed. They have an overnight shift for stores that close at night, and they would still have people working on Sundays if they were closed

I work in IT as a software developer, except currently my boss has me do weird non-developer like things like make some stupid documents and I almost have a mind to quit or leave except I can basically work at my own pace and for instance just take a break and post here if I feel like it

Very well, I am a man of my word. I'm also an accountant. Specifically, a CPA. My firm is versatile enough that I also end up doing things that barely even resemble accounting.

Other countries only work 30 hour weeks. Americans 40 hours but usually push it to 50-60 hours. America is messed up at it's core and people want their civil rights back.

And those countries usually have people that live longer, happier lives.

But we have 'freedom' apparently.

Funny thing about that. Some rich redneck living 10 minutes from the closest gas station offered me a welding job. He offered $10 an hour and said "It's way more than what you would make at McDonalds." That was 3 years ago, but my point still stands.

This man must be really hoping McDonalds doesn't start paying $25 an hour as the strikers are demanding them do.

Iceland (I think) adopted a 30 hour work week recently and by all accounts it seems to be going well

Probably. I have no clue as I did some contracted work for him for a few days at that time and the pay was garbage so I never dealt with him again.

this problem extends to white collar work too. when i rose into my position, my old role was not filled (it's a lead, so i don't have the power to hire new staff--just direct those under me)

as a reaction to the shutdowns, my employer has drug their feet on hiring new staff even as my section's LOE rose from 7 to 9. my section has six people.

my employer collects money from contracts for me to do the work of 1.7 people

my boss and his boss just left our contracts and now i'm doing their work too, off-contract, because someone has to.

i am paid well but not that well
