I just download the fillable pdfs straight from the irs website and do it myself free of charge. Print them out, stuff them in an envelope come April, and mail it off.

I refuse to use any Intuit product.

I do this except I use their interactive online forms. Get an email when it's been accepted and it will auto deposit any return into my saving account.

Only takes a couple hours max and that includes trying to remember what the hell I'm suppose to do on the forms.

Thought taxes were only free if you made less then 75k a year and it's paid outside of that no matter what?

No. If you make under a certain amount, the IRS provides free software for you to use that will do your taxes for you similar to TurboTax.
Additionally, they offer the free forms for you to manually fill out and submit online or via print and mail. These are offered regardless of income.

What's the best option for me now that TurboTax got rid of their free option?

I've been using Credit Karma the past couple years since it's just as easy. There was also one new thing I had to do a couple years ago that TurboTax wanted to charge me for but Credit Karma did for free. That was the whole reason I switched. People also say freetaxusa.com, but I've never used them.

Credit Karma sold their tax software rights to Cash App actually, but regardless it's still free and simple (for as long as you understand how to read tax forms).

Are these free tax services simple to do stock, crypto and other investments? I usually just pay $30-50 for TurboTax Premier, and importing things like stock trades is very easy.

I think its still free for simple filings

aka no itemized deductions, stocks, rental income etc.

so if youre just filing a W2 and taking a standard deduction its free..I think. I might be wrong.
