As as ICU doc I can tell this past month I've seen more massive strokes than any other month in my career. And most of these patients seem to be incidentally found to be covid positive. We already know COVID makes you more prone to developing clots. Strokes are essentially clots in the brain.

What's sick is refusing a proven vaccine over politics, overburdening the healthcare system as a result, displacing other patients (covid or otherwise), and thinking there's nothing wrong with this picture. They really just need to start including the people who die from not getting care due to the full hospitals along with the covid numbers. Maybe people will wake up when the news starts reporting "5000 people died of covid yesterday, but 8000 died waiting on treatment at full hospitals."

i have seen some people in the newspaper that they couldn't get treatment because of lack of bed:

biggest one was a gallbladder infection: they could've fixed it in 15 minutes and high survival.

My dad suffered a serious stroke and had to wait for an icu bed. He then had to wait for a bed in the stroke ward, and then wasn't able to get physio.

Its amazing hes alive but he is not in the shape he could be. She is right.

Not sure why any of the first part matters. But for the deserve part? No. Beds are limited and people that took the bare minimum to survive need them more. Just like with Organ Transplants, people who will most likely survive should get the treatment first. Then those who didnt do the bare minimum gets their treatment.

Fuck you. I had cancer (lymphoma) in 2019, and the only way they caught it was through an elective procedure, which in a ton places aren't happening right now because hospitals don't have the staff. My first round of treatment required a 6 day stay in a hospital bed, which would not have been available because hospitals are literally overflowing and treating people in hallways.

If my wife or someone I care about is in a major accident and needs an ICU bed and can't get one I will unplug whatever anti-vaxxer is taking up the bed that she needs, and then take whatever punishment comes with that. You don't get to take away medical care from people who need it because you are a selfish prick who consumed too much propaganda.

and overweight people generally have to demonstrate a certain level of committment to lifestyle changes before they get a heart transplant

elective treatments should be ahead of unvaccinated individual (provided they didn't convert an area into a covid ward).
