tbh, I stopped watching TWD not long after the stuff in the OP, so I don't know much about the Carl situation, even though I know his overall fate

I've continued watching The Walking Dead and I'm caught up... IMO, the show has definitely not been as interesting since that part.

I don't necessarily think that killing off Glenn was a bad thing, since it felt like he had plot armor in a series where no one should have felt safe, but I didn't like Negan, and thought that he was probably one of the weaker antagonists we've seen (up to that point, at least).

Glenn was a shitty, boring character by that point in the show. And Negan is the best character the show ever had besides maybe Rick.

The cliffhanger was dumb. Kill Abraham for the season finale, kill Glenn for the season premiere. It was right there but they went with the dumbest possible choice.

I think they got close with some of the Whisperer stuff but they have also goofed many more times since, so meh.

I loved the first season, and think I watched halfway through the second season before stopping..

I know the original showrunner came back sometime after I stopped watching, but I had lost interest from that half season I watched without him.

They really could have used Carl, especially given how departures later on really hurt the show

Glenn under the dumpster killed it for me. I kept watching for a bit, but I was mentally checked out. Lasted until Carl died which was an AWFUL decision and then finally tapped out after Rick left.

I lost interest in TWD when it became The Negan Show.

Don't know why it continues to spawn subpar spinoffs. Just let it die already.

Yeah, I didn't realize they had yet another spinoff besides Fear the Walking Dead until recently. Not sure I'm gonna try to get caught up on those. I got super annoyed at the overly idiotic decisions being made in Fear the Walking Dead.

They wanted to get those high season premiere numbers but yeah from an actual quality perspective doing it that way would've been better.

I wasn't actively watching by that point anymore but if I had been that would've been where I stopped. I think I checked out around season 5 or so. The last major thing I remember seeing was Rick biting that guy's throat out I think

Yup. And one of the things that made Walking Dead so interesting was that it felt like nobody really had plot armor in the beginning; you never knew who would bite the dust next. So people complaining that Glenn was too precious/iconic/whatever to die only demonstrate why he needed to lol

Id agree with OP. The show used to have many moral compasses to balance out its psychopaths. Glenn was essentially the last moral compass left in the main cast aside from Carl, and his death resulted in the realization that a majority of the characters I used to enjoy were now just cringy brooding edgelords.

Anyway, my favorite part was when they brought Carl back and then killed him again.

I knew it was coming cause of the comics so I wasn't too mad about that. But I was mad about the stupid cliffhanger way they went about it

They don't have the main character involved in Negan's big character arc in the end of the comics, so they have to adjust a bit.

I want to see that scene from the comics where Negan and Rick are stuck in a house with a bajillion zombies outside, and because Rick is injured, he needs to depend on Negan and Negan wants to prove he's been rehabilitated. I think plugging Maggie in for Rick could also make this scene work, but any other situation probably wouldn't.

God I hated that. A stupid tease to kill Abraham, and then immediately kill Glenn anyways to completely overshadow your other important supporting character's death. Everyone knew Glenn was dying because that's where he dies in the comics so trying to pull the wool over everyone's eyes didn't even really work.

A lot of the whole Whisperer stuff was pretty good. I haven't watched the recent episodes, but IMO most of the stuff after the pointless time skip has been pretty enjoyable.

I watched a season or two from memory, I cant remember exactly where i dropped it but the show was so boring and the characters were bad and they made poor decisions

I might be the minority but I'm not mad that Glenn died (I mean I'm upset because he was cool but I mean as far as storytelling goes. I'm ok with characters dying)

But the show really did continue to decline after that. Negan got dull. He was all talk. The Trash people were fucking stupid. The Kingdom was stupid. The Whisperers were stupid.

Characters would be introduced, established and then just be killed for no rhyme or reason

The whole dynamic of "A Group of people just trying to survive, making touch choices" turned into "A congaline of weird Comic book villains all have crazy personalities and get into ridiclous situations/adventures" and it just became hard to stay invested.

I mean Daryl and Rick in a hole together for 5 minutes was better than like the previous 5 seasons of melodrama. Then they never speak to each other again.

Walking Dead lost it's strengths and just devolved into "THEN ANOTHER THING HAPPENED! And now he's these guys! Anyone for lesbians!? Here's Princess! Paintball Stormtroopers? Did someone say new giant communities on the march?"

It felt like jangling keys in front of an infant.

And this might be unpopular but I absolutely could not care less about Rick's annoying hyper competent daughter and Michonne abandoning her to go on a goose chase to find Rick makes her a piece of shit.

Shane, Daryl and Rick arguing over how to find food with 3 distinct personalities as the situtation continued to decline and a bunch of flighty women panicked and bitched was more interesting than whatever the fuck the secret military or giant migrating caravan are up too.

Even though it's a crazy situation, the circumstances and personalities are relatable. You could make a serious thesis that in the first few seasons the Zombies can be a metaphor for debt/cost of living for the poor in modern America and the Altanta Group as a metaphor for a struggling family.

You really can't do that post Negan. Now it's just a superhero show.

Pretty much Glenn then it became too focused on Negan. Just didnt bother to watch it anymore. Learned that Carl died, didnt care too much and havent watched anymore. Then only watched the episode where Rick finally goes and that was it for me.

I knew Glenn's situation was coming because people spoiled it from the comics years prior.

Carl's sudden, pointless death is what made me stop watching.
