He (10yo) is on the Great Plateau and had the last remaining Tutorial Shrine for him to visit be in the Plateau's cold area. The game wants you to find insulated equipment somewhere else and come back with it, to teach you about the climate in certain parts of the game world. However, through his repeated deaths, he figured out that when he respawns, he gets full health, even if it's from a manual save point.

So, he got the idea to brute-force himself through the cold area, saving the game when Link's health got low so that when he died, the game would put him back there but at full health. He repeated this process until he got to the shrine, which he was able to complete.

I wouldn't be surprised if this exploit has been known for years, but I'm a bit surprised that he figured it out (albeit out of laziness of not wanting to get the equipment he was supposed to get). It's hard to be mad at him over doing that.

That's something 10 year old me would have done too so I dont blame him

I wouldnt be mad at all. Smart kid. He clearly learned about the climate which the game intended, he just worked around it which is a big part of BotW.

Clever lol. Also I've never gotten the equipment for the plateau. I've always just made spicy meals to fight the cold.

Also do torches stay lit as long as you keep holding them? I thought they burned out after enough time passed.
