Once you get the Crystal Star, the scene transition takes you back to Twilight Town automatically! ...but yeah the back and forth was annoying. At least with Chapter 4 you only need to walk around that particular landscape, but with General White you literally have to backtrack through every single chapter. I love built-in speedleveling areas in adventure RPGs, and I spent a lot of time in those woods too.
