meh, I might be talking about extremely focused subsections

Libertarians will not be celebrating this, even though they should be because 'muh freedom'. most Libertarians are simply Far-Right in denial, they are not for the 'personal freedoms' that they occasionally espouse. really, they're terminally online these days too. their beliefs aren't based in reality, they're based in theory - theory they are not even keen for when applied to groups other than themselves.

as for the 'Left' I'm addressing, I'm talking about the ones the terminally online Twitter/YouTube weirdos like Russell Brand, Jimmy Dore, Krystal Ball and anyone else that claims to be Left, but spends their entire career dumping on the Democrats while ignoring Republicans. these people are less common in real life, although I do run into them - they are quite prevalent on Twitter, but I'm suspended there lol.

Totally. Some players capture an increasingly larger audience though, so I still think it's worth discussing. Kinda like the increase in politicians that believe Q-Anon shit. Obvious minority. Still fucked, that's for sure. And I do think that the Right do try hard to espouse a form of Libertarian 'personal freedom' while consistently contradicting themselves. They're just the same in practice (Right and Libertarian) while almost anyone claiming to be Libertarian is in denial and will easily defer to a Rightwing leader that contradicts their claimed principles.

It is illegal everywhere, in part because of certain UN regulations.

Many countries no longer actively prosecute possession and usage, but for countries to actually fully legalize it, some UN regulations need to change.

That's probably actually a significant part of the reasoning behind the pardon. The GOP now has two options:

• Condemn the pardon and vow to do whatever they can to reverse it if they take power in the midterms
• Don't take a stance on the pardon

If they choose the first, they're going to alienate GOP voters that have or do smoke pot and enjoyed a brief taste of not being criminalized for it, inevitably resulting in some of them jumping ship because they've finally realized how much voting Republican actually hurts them. If they choose the second, they're unlikely to push anyone to vote D, but they are going to piss off their voter base that sees this as a moral failure, quite possibly to the point of discouraging them from voting at all. Either way, it's an easy win for the Demcorats.
