Who ya got to win Survivor 43?

Sorry, Cassidy. Edit-wise, you're the least existent person left, so I had to leave you out :/

It was gonna be Dwight but Jesse is an idiot.

Watching TAR since it's right after Survivor.

Okay, HALF-watching TAR since it's right after Survivor.

This is boring. Claire gave one reason why: It takes teams equal amount of time to do tasks. And that's because they're too menial - not to mention the focus is completely on tasks, not on the cultural exposition that made the early seasons of this show compelling. And I think COVID put the screws to that permanently. They can't really do less fortunate places anymore, and have racers immerse themselves in people's lives.

There's also not as much drama, though from what I've heard about Aubrey and David, I'm kinda surprised that they're boiling over and bickering. This episode is reminding me of why I stopped caring about this show, and I think I will swiftly go back to not caring.

I see James didn't learn anything from Geo's mistakes.

That boot would've been more interesting if it wasn't between the two most under-edited people left. Technically three if you count Ryan as the split vote, but I don't think he was in any serious danger tonight, edit-wise.

As for the race, I really wanted to believe that Glenda & Lumumba would find a way back in it, even though I knew it was just the edit playing tricks on us and they didn't stand a chance.

This is the first time this season that Aubrey & David have shown any semblance of a personality.

Sami sucks
Ah, exactly what I was hoping for post #500 to be. He's basically Spencer Reiman Bledsoe without the Charlie Brown storyline that made Mr. Bledsoe a compelling TV character. Sami is a wooden gamebot that has literally nothing going for him.

The worst part is that the edit is favoring him. If he wins, I am done with Survivor. That would make this my least favorite US season; only AUS All-Stars would be worse, as that season reeks of an even worse version of this one. An insufferable alpha male protagonist who thinks he's hot shit. Soulless editing. Boring, predictable votes. Lame twists. A lack of good moments. But while this season has a subtle, undercurrent misogyny, that season has overtly horrible treatment of women, and that's made worse by truly abysmal editing.

I do hope I'm wrong about the edit favoring Sami and that he's being set up for a comeuppance later. But that scene at the challenge with Sami and Noelle worries me. It was left in for a reason, and that's either to make people root for Noelle or to make Sami look good. I hope it's the former.

Is that on them or the editing? TAR editing is usually even more formulaic than that of Survivor tbh.

Yeah while the edit for them + David/Aubrey left some small ember of hope burning, the reality of the whole car-in-ditch thing and the time it'd take to get out of there was just too disqualifying. A shame because I liked them, certainly more than David/Aubrey.

I don't really get the intense hate for Sami around these parts, not saying I like him but he's a typical zoomer bro and a mix of different personalities is good? fr fr no cap

I also can't see him as being wooden, he certainly has more charisma/personality than Spencer, who I was a very big fan of but really, completely different personalities. Maybe different approaches to the same "gamebot" aesthetic.

His winning at 19 would be a storyline but yeah I don't think he's winning. I also wouldn't overthink their keeping that scene in, it was really just a nice moment?

I'm all-in on Cody with uh... I guess Jesse in a distant second, though I'm not really feeling his chances right now. Jeanine third maybe.

Speaking of which, do we know if Jeanine got her idol back from Dwight in time or permanently lost it? I don't recall that being shown in the episode but I might have missed it, iirc Knowledge is Power has to be used before votes are cast so he should've given it back to her after that point?

Jeff told Dalton that the idol is permanently gone. She can't have it back, even as a decoy, and Dalton theorized that it's out maturing on Ghost Island.

Yeah, he's a lot like Tommy, but... he's douchier and an egomaniac. He talks about himself as if he's the greatest 19 y/o who ever lived. He reminds me of some jerks from my high school days. And that's why I don't like him, though I don't find him as repulsive as I want to. I just want someone to root against, because that makes a season better.

Oh dear God I'm getting so sick of the sob stories and flash backs.

Don't get me wrong, I love seeing the contestants humanity and what makes them who they are. But I'd rather see it and hear about it as they're telling EACH OTHER. Show us the moments of them bonding about their past and history in real time! Cutting away to these pictures and stuff just kills the pacing and the more that get shown the less and less I care about the next.

It almost feels like the casting is done now based on whose got the most traumatic story to tell. It's exhausting. I'd rather see the tribes bond with each other over this stuff, not spoon fed it in a confessional.

Cassidy has a stronger winner's edit than some of the people you included on the poll. Ignoring Erika's hourglass episode where she HAD to be shown, the two have roughly equal screentime and depth so far.

Regardless, it's Cody.

I don't see any protagonal focus on her in the same vein as Erika. A lot of things on Luvu were from Erika's perspective. Cassidy got basic narration. I don't see the Erika upside at all.

I probably should've left Ryan out. If Cassidy wins, I will admit I look like a moron. But I just don't see that happening. Though... I really can't pick a winner out of this bunch, so who knows?

And yes, Sami is a douchenozzle. We've all known someone like him. I find him to be a turn-off. But him winning would simply be "the last straw" - I'm tired of all these exhausting twists and dumb production decisions, and if someone I hate wins it, I'm just gonna be like "Blah, I'm so over this, see ya." It's sort of like what happened with Big Brother, when after BB22 was so, so bad I was giving the show one last chance to entertain me... and it didn't.

I've come around on Jesse's move since he got an idol off of Dwight. You take that chance if it means you get treasure, especially if nobody could even fathom that you have it. That's gonna be a potential game-winner if he plays it right, but I don't think he's gonna.

The edit is certainly building Jesse and Cody up as cocky SOBs, but it's also trying to make Sami look like he's a Spradlinesque player when in reality he's just another cocky jock. Shocked nobody caught on and suggested his name to go when he was clearly trying to protect Jeanine. I do hope his story is being built up so he sees himself as unstoppable, only for him to get blindsided viciously and epically. I am so here for that. If he wins, this will be my least favorite season ever. This cast is so boring.

Also was boring to see Owen win immunity after they'd already said Owen was dead to rights. That happens multiple times a season these days, it feels like. Made the challenge less interesting.

But yeah, despite the lack of advantages present in this episode, it was still only marginally better than some of the others this season. Not enough Noelle, for one, and she's really the only person there that I particularly care for. Ryan was funny with how clueless he was thinking he could get everyone on the same page in 20 minutes and then go out fishing for three hours and expect nothing to change. Ryan being the only real comic relief is unfortunate; Gabler's eccentricities are fun but not funny. Sooo many gamebots who do nothing for me.

I mean let's break it down.

Aastha & Nina - Interesting, booted early.
Tim & Rex - Likable, booted early.
Rich & Dom - Extremely entertaining, booted early.
Linton & Sharik - Sharik was infuriating and they were terrible racers but at least there was a story going on.
Abby & Will - I legit almost forgot to put them on here.
Glenda & Lumumba - Likable and entertaining, but by they time they were booted they had been doing so poorly for several legs that it almost felt overdue.
Quinton & Mattie - Funny, quirky and cute, but underedited.
Derek & Claire - Entertaining and likable in most episodes but occasionally get kinda gamebotty.
Emily & Molly - Have gotten kinda bland.
Marcus & Michael - Probably the most consistently interesting team left. Their inconsistent performance is leading to some pretty fun moments and makes them the most unpredictable team left in the race.
Luis & Michelle - Actually decently entertaining, mostly thanks to Luis.
Aubrey & David - My God, this team has gotten one of the most frustrating edits in recent memory. They have a story going on of constantly coming in second-to-last, and Aubrey has an entertaining personality and is actually providing some decent moments and yet, they're being edited as total background characters. It's insulting to us as an audience. Like where the fuck is the story going with this team?

Watching Price Is Right... and they just had a "Real Love Boat" showcase presented by the host of that show. Without any disclaimer that this was episode filmed over a month ago and that the show has since been canceled. I'm laughing - they've typically done this kind of thing on TPIR for premiere days of new shows, not as a desperate, too-late attempt to salvage one. They weren't even subtle with how Drew Carey had to dub himself to say the show is being burned off on Paramount Plus!

I thought you guys would find that funny, too.

Challenges like this are annoying, because they're so boring to watch given how we get 82 of them a year.

James' excessive celebration at the challenge is easily one of the dumbest things yet this season. He just advertised who his F2 was, and that he doesn't trust Sami. Sami and Owen are gonna vote him out, and Noelle will be 100% down for that.

Looks like Noelle didn't have to get so cute with the vote steal. She could've just used it on James and he couldn't do anything about it. They really should've clarified this to them, since then they never would've needed Sami in the first place and the plan would've been foolproof.

I wonder if he would've tried to blind steal one from Karla? He knew that Cody had Vesi's idol and thought that Jeanine's idol left with Dwight. So that leaves Coco's idol, and since the only Cocos there were him and Karla he'd have to steal from her. He would've been right, but I don't know if he'd want to anger an ally like that.

Something we didn't see last night just got revealed by EW. Going to spoiler tag it because it will likely come up next episode, if not then in a future episode.

James gave Sami the Knowledge is Power.

It sounds like that was only for the Dwight vote and he got it back right afterwards, since they asked him afterwards if he got to keep the parchment.
