Fav Nu Metal band?

Nu Metal's a weird genre to classify, but I tried to get a good selection of bands that most commonly get the label.

There's some gems in it, despite the hate.

Personally, I only really listen to System and Deftones, but the genre as a whole gets more hate than it deserves.

Them and System both, I've always felt like got lumped in because people didn't know where else to put them genre wise.

Deftones is Nu-metal? Wut and no Nonpoint or more well known Static X. In more seriousness I like Linkin Park. Hybrid Theory was such a good album to a punker like me.

They made their break when Korn and Limp Bizkit were the thing. They also don't scream all the time and they have sorta an alternative rock sound. So they get lumped in with them.

Nu metal is really kinda a vague genre anyway. Slipknot doesn't consider themselves Nu metal but a lot of people do including TC, and they don't sound like the rest of these guys either.

Almost no Nu Metal bands consider themselves Nu Metal tbh. Between being a hard genre to pin down, and having such a negative reputation, no one really WANTS to be considered Nu Metal.

Only one I consider to have released some actually great albums.

Linkin Park, Korn, and Disturbed have a couple decent albums each and some good songs too.

I mean, that's kinda what the genre ended up being, yeah. A catch-all category for rock/metal bands that no one knew where else to categorize them.

Probably Korn but Ive been digging Mudvayne recently. SOAD is decent, Linkin Park is good, Slipknot had some bangers, and Limp Bizkit is good for nostalgia.

Nu metal is really kinda a vague genre anyway.

it's not even an actual genre. it's a derisive term for hard rock that elitist metal nerds in who's only personality trait was "I have better music taste than you!" applied to pretty much any hard rock band in the early 2000s because they thought these bands were trying to be metal.

"i think i heard drop-d tuning and there wasn't a solo" isn't the basis for a genre.

Speaking of Limp Bizkit, one thing I always hated that they did was at the end of entirely too many songs theyd just dick around. Like the song would end, and then thered be 30-45 seconds of DJ Lethal scratching doing nothing interesting.

Not nu metal obviously, but Queens of the Stone Age did something similar on Songs for the Deaf where they did this stupid fucking radio station thing after almost every song.
