One thing I did with this BR set was separate out the boss themes into phases - this is phase 3 of Sayonara (unsolicited opinion: I don't like any of the phase 2s). I hope the wubs are not too offensive...it was close to making the main set because it really is a great encapsulation of the 49-song soundtrack!

Third phase of Sayonara is dope. Great synths and the utilization of the main theme here is great. I think phase one is my favorite of this song though. Wings has an even better melody. Really great triumphant-sounding song. I wouldn't say either of these are amongst my favorites from their respective games, but they're still both really good. I think Wings gets the edge for having an all-around better composition structure, even though Sayonara sounds cooler.

Radical River is ok. Not particularly offensive, but nothing about it stands out to me either. Soul Sanctum is really good. Love the low organ start, then the buildup is really good too. Fantastic song overall. Easy vote on this one.

Kaine / Salvation is pretty nice. Lovely piano and vocals. Pretty simplistic, yet effective composition. Flock Step is a fun one. Nice synths and melody. I think I'm going NieR on this one though.

Possibly-unpopular opinion that the best part of Soul Sanctum is the subdued part. The track's a banger regardless.

Anyone want to corroborate that Nakano's the one that did Radical River? I'm fairly confident it is (thought it was Hamauzu at first + the rest) but I don't know Yuji Takenouchi particularly well.

Much like yesterday, Sayonara has stuff I like and then some wubbing I don't, whereas Wings is alright throughout. Sayonara's highs are really good today though and the electronics are less frequent, so it gets the vote.
I liked the Mystic Warriors set but this one doesn't do much for me I'm afraid. Not that it would probs matter, I obviously really like Soul Sanctum.
Oh man, how did I miss somebody nominating Rhythm Heaven Fever! Unfortunately Flock Step's official track doesn't come with the squawks, and I am fond of sad pianos... Hm, this one is tough. I'll give it to the huebirds of happiness, it's such a fun track I'm always bopping along to.

holy shit you can't just put one of my favorite songs of all time as an alt. that's cheating. Like Wings is fine (and I genuinely feel Sayonara part 3 suffers a bit from not having the proceeding parts, especially part 1, as the way it uses the main Blue Reflection motif in the finale makes me cry just thinking about it it's so beautiful and uhhh someday i will share the story that got planted in my head from listening to the OST of blue reflection but today is not that day where was I) but it's a more normal alt-power-level track and that just don't cut it here. Sorry Xenogears.

Soul Sanctum's buildup is just way too long, but the tension and payoff are both really good. I just wish it were like 90 or even 60 seconds of buildup instead of over two minutes. I assume that this is sort of two tracks in game and some event moves between the two halves? The syncopated rhythm shoving me forward around 3:10 is pretty neat.

did you know that kaine spelled backwards is ekans? Flock Step is surprisingly fun, did not expect to vote this way but here we are.

The OST versions of most or all of the Hollow Knight area songs are a mix of ambient and combat variations of the theme.

that would explain a lot.

Soul Sanctum's second half is certainly worth the wait, but Radical River was easily more in my taste overall to begin with.

sayonara really stands out atmospherically. distortion and heavy wubs offsetting the light and soft hopeful melody. this really is a piece of music with its own story, the game's theme at war with vile invaders. wings isn't without storytelling, either, rich and adventurous, with the two small piece leitmotif sprinkled throughout. it is just plain fun, but not saccharine. i'd be fine with a victory from either, but i do have a preference.

i've only listened to a few mystic warriors songs, but i am so in love with how they - understandably, and perhaps obviously - make me think of final fantasy x. this is really quite a compliment from me, ffx music rocks my socks off. radical river doesn't disappoint at all in this department. soul sanctum, on the other hand, feels less like a battle on a dance floor, but empty and haunting. even when it picks up, there's a brutal loneliness attached. this kind of epic orchestra battle music is hit or a miss, sometimes it just feels cheesy to me, but this passes the test. preference given to the former but the latter is still pretty good!

i am used to the ffxiv version of kaine/salvation and it is throwing me into a loop lmao. i keep expecting more. THAT being said, that is not an insult to the original, which is still beautiful, if not more beautiful in its own right. the vocals so haunting and the pared down instrumental backing. there is just so much sorrow in these words i cannot understand. what in the mood whiplash is this - flock step is cute and fun. i kind of didn't expect to like it very much based on prior experience with rhythm heaven, but this was pretty neat!
