My wife put in the order at the grocery store and I picked it up. After I walked out I was like, uh I was probably supposed to check out at the register with the printed label.

Tbh I totally ate the food Walmart deli would throw away at the end of the night. If you worked in the back and realized how much gets thrown away because a box is open or crushed. And you're minimum wage hungry as fuck, i totally get it. But not everyone is gonna be ok with literally throwing away edible food. It's why you see homeless grabbing bread out of dumpsters.

I'm pretty sure they still are.

People have always been okay with stealing if it's from the right people, or if it benefits them and they don't have to see the results. It's hardly a universal idea. The universal idea is that nobody wants someone to steal from them. Nobody who ever seriously followed "thou shalt not steal" ever accomplished anything, at least in terms of capitalism.
