Should moderate Democrats and Republicans form a coalition government?

Should moderate Democrats and Republicans together forming a majority of both houses of Congress unite to form a strong and stable coalition of chaos in the national interest?

The extreme wings of both parties would lose power. President Biden's power would be enormously enhanced. Joe Manchin would be Senate Majority Leader and Liz Cheney would be Speaker of the House. Mitch McConnell would remain Senate Minority Leader but would also be given the new informal position of First Minister, or Prime Minister, to President Biden. There would be no convention or law requiring the President to follow the First Minister's advice.

I mean yes we need a third party that doesnt honestly believe Jesus rose from the dead and also cares about national defense and having pride in the country doing well. One that applauds the LGBT community and also is tough on crime and supports cops. One that cares about space travel and exploration but also recognizes we need better healthcare.

Too bad the media wouldnt cover a party like that.

The trick here is that the moderate Democrats and Republicans are not actually forming or joining a new party. They will continue to run in elections as Democrats and Republicans. Then, once elected, assuming that moderates end up with a majority of both houses, they form a coalition of moderates. If moderates don't end up with a majority of both houses they just act as Democrats and Republicans as usual. There should be very little risk of the extreme elements of the parties getting together and forming their own coalition in that scenario because they would never ally with the other extreme.

I don't think there are enough moderates in the Republican party to have anywhere near an even split (you've long since entered Crazy Town before reaching 25 Republican senators) so any such coalition would be 99% Democrats. It doesn't seem worthwhile just to cut out the one or two most progressive members. They do just fine ignoring them already.

Pretty much this. Fptp needs to go

I've seen other suggestions, including open primaries, removing party affiliations from ballots, and various things around funding

But moving to any of the better voting methods is easier to get behind

You did indeed stab me in the back. However, you are only level one, whilst I am level 50. That means I should remain uninjured.
