I was too lazy to actually grill anything, so I made a grilled cheese sandwich with butter and threw it in the microwave.

I don't recommend it. The cheese hardens after cooling.

I've bought cheese that has been only wrapped in foil (also sometimes in a cardboard box). I've gotten cheese that was only in wax. I've gotten cheese that was in a plastic container (so not wrapped). You're empirically wrong here. But that's your gimmick, so w/e.

And American cheese (as in the style of cheese, not cheese made in America) is terrible for everything including cheese toasties. The only good thing about it is the meltability, and there are proper cheeses that are actually edible/enjoyable and have functionally equivalent melting capabilities, which takes away the only point American cheese even has.
