It does indeed. It's not such a big deal if you're just going through the main story, since there isn't much backtracking and there tends to be stuff happening as you travel to help fill the time, but sidequests involve quite a lot of backtracking through mostly uneventful areas, which is pretty tedious without fast travel.

I'm trying to git gud at Chess... and I just scored an amazing game against one of the AI bots, and I don't know how.

I had 90% accuracy with a elo estimate of 1900, which is pretty sweet, but honestly it's just cuz the AI made a couple intentionally bad moves

not sure where to grind in Octopuff Troovlar, I'm on Chapter 3 with everyone but the two bosses I tried thusfar (Miguel and Venomtooth Tiger(?)) have such dramatic AoE I can't keep my healths up

What I did is early chapter 2 I went to the town by the sea on the east side of the map and had my dancer try to get the lucky x100 exp buff from Bewildering Grace. That had me set for the entire game.

Just turned off PS, was playing bit of Horizon zero dawn. Im almost done with game (cry), im playing DLC, almost at the end of main dlc quest ( cyan - im sure people who played it know what i am talking about). i think after that i have 2 side quests left and then.... the end....

as soon as i get myself PS5 (in couple years). And im so happy knowing i will have new Horizon game in the future. And, in couple of years, maybe we even gen 3rd part

Octopath has some funny junk in it

There's a wounded guy in the desert you can challenge to a duel... and Olberic is like "I challenge ye to a duel" and the guy is just like "Can't you see I'm dying!" and the fight starts, and the guy's turn goes "too wounded to move" and you just beat him up

I just about died laughing in the first "dungeon" when I had the mage character cast Scorch on a Dust Bunny and it turned into a more powerful Flaming Dust Bunny and one of the other characters yells "WHY DID YOU THINK IT WAS A GOOD IDEA TO LIGHT IT ON FIRE???"

the character creation for mass effect feels so bare bones now. i hate all the male shepard options for eyes and nose except for like 1 but i don't wanna make the same dude every time.

RE4 remake is the most fun Ive had with a single player game since Elden ring came out

I finished everyone's chapter 4 in octopath and have 2 of the extra jobs...

Up against the Archmage trying to cheese, but the cheese I came up with doesn't work... I tried to do Cleric/Runelord to put Reflect x4 on everyone, but that doesn't work cuz reflect isn't a self-targeting skill.

I also tried a number of buff combinations, but get neutered pretty quickly since the Archmage boss's gimmick is debuffing your magic and then locking your status... there's only 3 ways out of it; Merchant Rest, Apothecary ... their thing, and Starseer's own status lock ability.

Actually, Rest is a self-target skill so maybe if I make Tressa a Runelord I can use rest+transfer rune to quickly remove status lock from everyone. Not sure, seems like it should work.

edit: nope, rest doesn't remove debuffs, only status ailments

American Truck Simulator, Tchia, Fire Emblem Engage, The Last of Us, and I'm grinding the achievements on Among Us.

currently i am replaying mass effect because it's been so long i forgot mostly everything. second playthrough so far and decided on biotic femshep. i usually pick soldier, so this is amusing as heck. think i prefer manshep just a little bit though, other than a couple voice lines.

also played through a game called hedon. it is basically a modernized doom with bits of cartoon orc porn sprinkled throughout secret areas, so it's pretty decent.

life is good, chums.

I replayed the trilogy back in 2020. Great series. I'm currently replaying cyberpunk 2077.

Final Fantasy games on the PS5 (Started with X, IX and now I'm on VIII). Replaying to see if I still feel the same way about them.

Great games. I've played each many times through. I think I've probably spent the most time on 8, but 7, 9, and 10 are fantatstic.

Also been going through the Kingdom Hearts games on Xbox for achievements.

Otherwise I havent been playing much. I might dive into Persona 3 again but who knows how much motivation Ill have.

If you're interested in having Picross on mobile, I recommend Nonagrams Katana, which is available on both Android and iOS (and apparently there's also a browser version, as I just discovered when I double-checked that it's on iOS). A ridiculous number of puzzles in there, with more user-generated ones being added all the time.

Picross as a concept is great... but there's something special about the overall, umm.... 'cozyness' ? of the DS ones

That's fair. A game's overall vibe feeds a lot into how enjoyable it is, and that won't necessarily be matched by another game with similar gameplay.

Ok, Octopath has the most BS final boss ever

Spoilers, I guess?

1. You have to beat 8 long boss fights first, but they're not really that hard... kinda pulling a Megaman here
2. YOU CAN'T SAVE OR LEAVE
3. You get surprised with the notion that you have to break up into two parties, without knowing who is doing what
4. Boss has an immortality mechanic, which isn't that hard to overcome if you spam items (BP up) and mass AoE... takes a long time due to having 500'000 HP
5. Oh, then the real final boss... with the second party only, (make sure you healed them up first... BEFORE YOU ENTERED THE DUNGEON... unless that's part of your strat (Olberic)
6. Also has an immortality mechanic, but also has high enough speed to almost always go first to party wipe you if you didn't know BEFORE HAND that he would
7. Oh, did I mention you have to do all of this in one go?

All of this means each attempt at the final boss takes an hour outright

I've mostly been playing Minecraft while I've had Covid, but the other night I just started a new playthrough in Jade Empire. I've been considering doing a run through ME again but I haven't quite been in the mood for it yet.

You have never lived until you've played ME2/ME3 as a Vanguard. It's not really a thing in the first game, but Biotic Charge is ridiculously fun.

It's pretty much become my default playstyle. Though I'll occasionally go for more off-the-wall builds like an Infiltrator sniper or playing through Andromeda as as technician with lots of turrets.

Blasphemy.

I think the only time I enjoyed playing maleShep at all was when I was playing a deliberately "neutral as possible" run where I was pretending that Shepard was a test tube clone (complete with bald head and expressionless eyes). His soulless monotone lends itself really well to that style. Of course, they had to go and ruin it by taking neutral dialogue options out of ME3 and giving him a personality, but it was kind of amusing in ME1 and ME2 to be a character who didn't quite seem to understand what human emotion was.

Kind of sounds like a simplified version of the final boss level in Final Fantasy VI. Where you had to split into three parties to fight your way through the level to the end, then fight the boss with all three teams, so if you'd neglected to power-level most of your collection of characters to focus on just a single party you'd be kind of screwed.

i think i played vanguard the very first time i played through the game and wasn't a huge fan of it. i might have to give it another chance.

to be fair on the other thing, i decided to start an insanity run with a dudeshep soldier, and listening to his voice again it definitely feels flatter than i remembered. there have been a few times where i just kinda started giggling at how genuinely inappropriate some of his responses come off. honestly, they both pale in comparison to most of the supporting cast either way.

I didn't have too much trouble with it, but I also had a thoroughly overpowered party comp. I was more annoyed by the fact that all of the interesting tie-ins between the eight stories were relegated to text dumps hiding behind this obscure sidequest chain that turned out to be the true ending. It was an interesting story, but the delivery left so much to be desired.

Id honestly recommend playing the original also. The remake was better but the OG is still great.
