In the long list of things he is in line to be indicted for, this one seems to be fairly minor.

"The Trump Organization in business records described the reimbursement to Cohen as a legal expense. Falsifying business records is normally a misdemeanor under New York law, but can be elevated to a felony if the misstatement was done to cover up another crime. Trump denies having sex with Daniels or committing wrongdoing of any kind."

The actual indictment is sealed so maybe there are other charges involved as well.

I'd expect a combination of being silent, pretending they never said that, no matter how many screenshots you have to the contrary, that it never happened, AND that he was "indicted" by the deep state.

See also: The same people insisting that Trump's impeachments were illegitimate because he remained in office, ignoring that in both cases everyone involved agreed that they were impeachable offenses and that he was guilty, and the only reason he wasn't removed is that his party circled the wagons and voted against doing so.

In reality, the only reason I think this is even happening is the Republican establishment is pushing for it behind the scenes. They know hell win the primary but lose the general election. So he is not only of no use to them but hes a real liability. That is the ONLY reason this rich man is facing consequences because he is a threat to many other rich men. Ironically, kinda like his friend Epstein.

No running is the only thing that could potentially save him. Everyone spent his entire presidency going back and forth scared trying to figure out if you could charge a sitting president or not. If he some how managed to win before he got into serious trouble we find ourselves in very bizarre territory.

The problem is that this is exactly the sort of easy-to-willfully-mischaracterize issue that his base will turn into deep state grievance. They LOVE grievance. I think this improves his chances of getting the nomination, honestly. Hes not just an any news is good news guy. Bad news is BETTER than good news for his grievance factory.

He deserves to go down for it, certainly, as with many other thingsbut I doubt hell fall hard or fast enough. Or at all.

What we really need to do is indict him for the Georgia attempted coup/Jan 6th. Thats the real issue and the only only of these with a real chance to cause a reckoningalthough even then Im not sure Id bet on it. The legal system alone isnt sufficient - other top Republicans would have to dump him. They do want to, but would they in front of their base?

Its a mess with no good outcomes. Once our political system starts letting in con men clowns like Trump theres really no going back.

My views on political strategy is that when in doubt just push in the right direction and give them less options, tbh. The right puts exactly 20% of their brainpower and 100% of their raw emotional power in to things they do. Rn cons are going full throttle on trans people and it's even hurting their broader popularity. It's covered by the 50 other ways they cultivate people.

So if there are negative consequences to Trump being indicted, the bigger picture is that the guy who tried to overthrow the government is being targeted.

Think is, honestly, Trump is bad over all for the republican party, and I think many republicans can see that. The trick is to get a few fall guys that are high up in the republican party, could even run for president, but don't actually want to be president. Then have a real candidate or two who don't attack trump in any way, and let the fall guys do all the work knocking him down.

Honestly don't understand why guys like Pence etc don't do something like that since the obviously hate him. I'm no pro republican nor democrat, but I'm more anti-trump than any other candidate I have seen. Even I can see that the republican party will certainly have a better chance of winning in 2024 with someone besides Trump, in fact if the Democrats run Biden again, it's almost a slam dunk with anyone else at this point.

There is a pattern of behavior to consider which has shown itself repeatedly over the years, and most recently in Florida when Disney's lawyers basically owned Desantis and his people. They will be boisterous and bully anyone who doesn't fight back or stand their ground; then suddenly they try to "cooperate" and try to be morally equal or better. Basically, they cannot shake Trump because he already made the whole party his bitch back in the 2016 primaries, so whatever spines they may have had suddenly shrivel up and cease to exist in the presence of Trump. That party is torn between wanting Desantis and wanting to appease the Trump cult, and neither option is looking really good for them at the moment.

At this point, all the Dems have to do is not drink laxative from one another's buttholes, but my faith in the bare minimum is lacking.

So.

We'll see how the next couple years turn out. <_<

so do they

the rub is that trump does not think that, and for some reason an awful lot of people do like trump. but if it comes down to something like trump v desantis, then you're only going to split the vote, ensuring that both lose

this doesn't even matter really, because democrat voting has always been a crapshoot, with the exception of the last election.

I wanted Mr. Booty Judge, but mafia practices under the guise of politics as usual made him back out to give his support to the familiar old man only the elderly voters and established politicians wanted. So I'm note sure I'd even support him past this point unless he somehow gets the nomination and it's him versus the Repubs' likely candidates.

Sadly no. You can still run even if charged for some dumb reason.

The most obvious reason is that it's not particularly difficult to press charges against somebody, especially when you've got multiple state governments you can bounce between as needed to find somebody willing to exaggerate or misinterpret evidence for political gain. Press charges six months before the election to kick your most credible opponent out of the running, tie those charges up in court for a year before eventually letting the not guilty verdict through, and you've won the election by taking your opponent's strongest players out of the running.

Of course, the flip side is that having a criminal for president isn't exactly a good thing (though the trumpettes have shown themselves fully willing to gobble that right up), and having somebody convicted after being elected makes things awfully complicated, but on the whole I think it's probably for the best that simply charging somebody doesn't exclude them. That would just be too easy to abuse (and absolutely would be).

It's just how those sort of people are. I live in one of the most conservative states in the country and listen to random people feel comfortable talking about politics in public, given that 70% of people think the same thing. It's all "Everyone in congress is a criminal!" but then when they start ranting about the people they want to kill they never list a single member of the conservative party, it's only democrats.

And yes, to be clear here I regularly hear customers at my retail job loudly and publicly declaring the public officials they wish to murder on a near daily basis.
