Many people can be, but there are always going to be those who no matter what happens, they'll turn back to evil. There are also those (such as the Hitler example that it was inevitable someone would bring up) that even if they were theoretically able to give up their ways and live a good life going forward, they've crossed too many lines to deserve that chance.

People are evil, they are only sorry if theyre caught, and have to face consequences. Im not saying that some cant change, but feel theyre in the minority.

I agree with the topic title but not the opening post. No one is "truly" "evil" because "evil" is a subjective thing, not something inherent or universal. "Good" and "bad" (or in this case "evil") don't exist outside of a subjective framework. There is no "good" particle or "evil" particle that make up the composition of anything in the universe... only what people consider "good" or "evil" as based on a subjective standpoint.

I don't think people are really "born good or bad" as if we have predetermined destines, but there's definitely people with a greater capacity and acceptance of evil when compared to others.

Mass shooters are an example. Even if we take into account that they were suicidally depressed and this is how they wanted to go out, as someone who has suicidal thoughts on a rather frequent basis since high school I've never once thought about taking anybody else with me, because the idea is to end my own pain, not to inflict pain onto others who have done me no harm. The very idea of killing others as a means to kill myself is absolutely revolting, and yet we have these fucks like in Uvalde who turn 18, buy a gun, and then go kill children.

I am pro-suicide in that I think if someone wants to take their own life then that is their choice and only they truly understand the pain/burdens they are dealing with, but they should never drag others into the grave with them. That to me shows they have a far greater capacity and willingness towards evil than others who simply kill themselves with a gun.

There are absolutely some people in this world with just zero capacity for empathy. It simply wasn't built into them. I mean, I guess the question is, how can any person like that really comprehend morality to begin with? Its like trying to be a photographer while being blind.

I saw PenguinZ the other day talking about Mizzy, a terrible "prankster", and like, Mizzy had just no idea why people were upset with his pranks because they didn't happen to them, personally. Like, that's the kind of warped thinking that having no empathy can lead someone to have. How can a person like that really ever understand good or evil? And how can we let a person like that run around in society doing whatever they want?

That's obviously on the extreme end of things. I think most people are morally culpable for what they do and probably understand when they are doing a bad thing. Some people also have greater capacities to lie to themselves than others though, and it makes me wonder how we should judge them either.

How do you rehabilitate someone who sexually assaults babies?

That's beyond mental health defect.

Theres a lot of proof out there some of some offenders do not feel remorse or can be rehabilitated. Now to be more specific I do believe society and mental illness forms these people into who they are.
