Blissful ignorance of politics and life in general.
Wanting things was half the fun of not getting them.

I was 11 and while I still liked kiddie stuff like Nickelodeon and such, I'm pretty sure I was already transitioning to more of a teenage mindset at this age. I know I was watching MTV a lot more (which was actually really awesome back then, not the borefest it is nowadays.) I didn't know much about music yet so I was listening to a lot of the stuff my older brother listened to. Smashing Pumpkins, Tupac, and Oasis got regular play.

Oh yeah, also the Beatles had a comeback of sorts around this time, because they released their Anthology (unreleased recordings/demos + a book and a documentary.) It was a pretty big deal from what I recall.

This was also the year I was exposed to the internet, though I didn't spend much time on it. We had dial-up and it was slow as heck, websites were few and very janky. When I did get some time on the computer, I would usually be on Worlds Chat, which was a primitive avatar type chat (the avatars were similar to the sprites in DOOM.)

One of the things I remember about it was that the OJ Simpson trial was still fresh on everyone's mind, and one of the avatars on there was of a woman that reminded me of Nicole Brown Simpson, and the avatar was just this woman's head. So I thought of it as a Nicole Simpson severed head avatar.

Here's a couple of screenshots of this program as it looked back when I was using it, where you can see this weird head avatar.

What the hell? This is pretty cool.

I just want to say, you all have been really helpful! I've been enjoying reading all of these.

Colorado here.
Back when I first started following them in the late 80's, the shows were small, they would play chess with the audience at each one. Very good times indeed.
You Enjoy Myself is still my fave Phish tune.

@YourBestFrenemy

Hehe, Cool so I found two Phish Fans on CE!!
That makes Three of us.

One of my friends pass words, a long time ago was YEM..with whatever numbers it had to have.

I just Googled You Enjoy Myself, clicked the main result, and happens to be from right here!!
That was a bit of a double-take.
The fuckers haven't been in town for a while now though. V_V

Damn though, Trey is a straight beast on the git!
They wrap their fall tour every year here in CO with 4 consecutive shows at Dick's Sporting Goods complex, (over Labor Day weekend). You can just get a 4 day parking pass and camp out without even having to leave the festival site. It's always my favorite time of the year.

I would have thought it would be Red Rocks.

We are kinda taking over the topic, but it would be fun to have a Phish Topic!!

I definitely remember really wanting an N64 with Mario and Shadows of the Empire. I don't recall much else. Like I remember going to school activities and stuff, but I mainly remember talking about how much I wanted an N64 with friends.

@kitt

i dont mind. I just never fit in to any social group. I played sports but was never a jock, I did camera work for our schools soccer teams but was never in the AV club, ETC. I never felt like I could be myself where I was living. Idk, the 90s were great for the music and movies but it was hard in a pre-social media world to find your group when youre socially awkward. I eventually did find my weird much later but it was rough for a while.

I was still living in Mexico at the time, I think Mazatlan or Culiacan. I remember living in a high rise apartment and being obsessed with DBZ, in Mexico we were ahead of the Americans, and I remember watching animes like ghost sweeper Mikami. Ranma 1/2 and the original dragon ball. I also had a SNES, i didn't get a 64 until I moved to the states in 99.
