Friends,

I used my tractor with a loader to smash a ground bee hive. I thought with the noise of the
tractor, and the heat of the engine, they could not find me. If I stayed still.

well I was wrong, One got behind my glasses and stung me, and my eye swelled up.

anytime you mess with bees, its a risk, maybe small, maybe big.

Right, I was shredding a field once and the tractor died with the shredder over a bumble bee hive. They found me instantly. Luckily I was very fast so they chased me instead of my Dad.

I legit removed a bee hive with long sleeves and pants ducked taped sleeves, used a shop-vac. It worked but yeah, would not recommend.

Edit: Also we had a small fire going to make them passive from the smoke.

When I was younger, my grandmother had a bee's nest about the size of a soccer ball in the hedge right next to the fort my cousin, the two neighbor boys, and I built. While I was inside grabbing a snack, the three of them decided to use a lighter and an aerosol spray can (I think it was spray paint) to light the nest on fire... and the hedge.

Surprisingly, no one got stung and the hedge, while on fire near the nest, did not light up like a Christmas tree, so the fire was easily put out with a bucket of water. That said, I can't believe that it worked out that way, as it seriously defied the odds when dealing with bees and with plant life on fire in general.

Also, Ive destroyed dozens of hornets nests before with zero stings. Not sure why its so hard. You dont physically attack one. Spray it down with wasp killer or flood underground ones with water. They dont associate poison spray or suffocation as an attack by you at all.

Because they swarm around the whole area and when they got close to him he probably started panicking and that causes his body to release pheromones that attract them and then once he got stung the rest of them knew where to go

They probably burst from the hive and decided to sting anything in the area with soft bits.

And if you're super paranoid about them like I am, it's best to wait until after the sun goes down. I don't know if they're sleeping or the lack of light makes it harder for them to navigate or what, but they're much less prepared for battle at night.

Bees/Wasps and Hornets behavior is instinctive, and not at all reasoned.
Some species of ants can appear so clever (and the behavior appears reasoned, but it's not) -- they'll drag their prey to their nest, and then leave it at the entrance, and go through their nest and see if there's any dangers, and then drag the prey in and consume it. However, if you move the prey slightly while they're looking around, when they come back -- they'll reset, and do the whole thing again. You can keep moving the prey slightly, and their action will "reset", and they'll look around the nest, again and again, and again, and again. Literally until they starve to death.
