Anyways, sister lives with mom and is 8 months pregnant. Mom doesn't want her to have an ac yet because it's cool down to the 70's by the day after tomorrow. It's been 90 out all week and gonna be 80's tomorrow.

I am personally appalled by the fact that my mother is forcing her to live in that heat, so I'm gonna take her to the store soon and buy her an air-conditioner and set it up for her.

Am I being an asshole here? Or doing something wrong? It is literally 90 degrees in that room and I feel horrible for her and her soon to be born baby boy.

You're not being the asshole by being concerned for your sister, but you're also kind of going about this in a passive-aggressive way. If you're really appalled at your mom's treatment of your sister, you could take her in yourself, or you could talk to your mom directly about it, or you could offer to help pay to cover the AC if money is an issue. Buying something behind her back that you know she doesn't want in her house, even if it's for a good cause, doesn't actually fix the problem. Is this the best way to handle this? Or is it just the easiest?

Taking her in isnt an option at this point sadly. Money isn't the issue, my mom just finds it unnecessary becauseit'snot summer. I know this is a bit passive aggressive, but I far more worried for that child than i am upset with my mom.

When my father died he told me to take care of my sister and I feel horrible not doing as much as I can when she and he child needs it. Excessive heat is not good for the child and can cause things like low birth weight.

At worst your sister is gonna be pretty uncomfortable.

It's 90 degrees and she's 8 months pregnant. She needs something effective

Also, I talked to her about it and my mom was gonna take her in a week or two anyways to buy one, so I don't think I'm really hurting anyone.

I just want her to have one asap.

I'd buy it, throw mom $100, and tell her to go scratch

Might as well get one and help since it's only the beginning of June. There's going to be another heat wave at some point.

Do people really live without AC when it gets hot out? Anything over 70 is instant AC for me. Unless they have severe money issues to work around, seems silly.

I'm biased since i live in tropical country, but damn 70F is a nice temperature. We have around 80F/26C here on normal days.

Yeah as much as I despise the noise, Im willing to put up with it to keep cool.

As a homeowner, all I can say is

1. You can pay the bill.
2. Let her move in with you.
3. She can go find her own place.

It went pretty good

Mt mom was kinda upset, said she could've gotten one for cheaper and just wants it taken out on days when the wind will cool the room down.

I offered money for the bill but she didn't want it.

The real expense for running AC is the amount of electricity it costs.

By one of those fans that cool like an AC and if you have the cash throw some your mum way for the power Bill. No one should ever have to be hot.

No dude, we don't know what kind of budget is being worked with.

Also, the cost of running it can easily be used as a means to refuse to allow the daughter to run it, and escalate the tension even further. Offer another $50 toward electricity for the month or two left in the pregnancy.

I don't know if you've ever lived somewhere that gets up past 90F but I would literally trade food for AC in the summer if I had to. It gets so hot and humid here I wouldn't even be able to sleep.

Yes, it was over 90F today here and I don't have my AC installed yet. The only saving grace is that it's not full blown mid summer humidity.

I 100% agree the pregnant girl should get the AC, I am pro AC. I am thinking of the irrational parent potentially using money as the excuse to forbid her pregnant daughter from running the AC, when the real reason is probably some kind of self-righteous spite.

Because she obviously has the money to do that if I have to buy an air-conditioner. I'm also sure that a pregnant woman would do just great living on the street in this weather. (The thing that required the ac in the first place )
