Musicologists consider Hendrix's "Purple Haze" and "Spanish Castle Magic" the first heavy metal.

https://faroutmagazine.co.uk/did-jimi-hendrix-invent-heavy-metal/

https://theartofrockmusic.voices.wooster.edu/wp-content/uploads/sites/180/2015/01/Purple-Haze-The-Jimi-Hendrix-Experience-1967-1.pdf

https://metalinjection.net/this-is-just-a-tribute/metallicas-kirk-hammett-discusses-how-jimi-hendrixs-purple-haze-influenced-his-style

They came out a year before "Helter Skelter".

As former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said, the British simply sold black music back to Americans.

metal, as all vibrant genres, took a little of a lot of things on its way to genre-hood. but out of all the above, hendrix is the true godfather

Metal music, by definition, was invented by Leon Theremin in 1928, but it's not very metal.

If you want to go that way, it's not even their most Christian song:

Perhaps you'll think before you say that God is dead and gone
Open your eyes, just realize that he's the one
The only one who can save you now from all this sin and hate
Or will you still jeer at all you hear, yes I think it's too late

Helter Skelter is nowhere near metal. You might get away with calling it proto punk but even that is a stretch.

No, the gods, the primordial beings. They made heavy metal, and they saw that it was good.

It's so unfair that whenever I hear Theremin music all I can think of is terrible cheesy horror and Sci-fi movies.

Even tho the music is actually decent XD

You can't believe in [the Christian] Devil unless you are Christian. Otherwise, you simply have a different religion.

One of my favourites.

I'd argue J.S. Bach Invented the Electric Guitar Solo...on a Harpsichord.
And I'm pretty sure all Metal Bands have heard some part of The Taccotta and Fugue.
Everyone knows that chord.

Both songs were doing new things and or breaking the rules.
