I've noticed while I'm walking out and about and I happen to walk by someone when we're the only people on the block and we happen to make eye contact, they tend to smile at me. Complete strangers, mostly women, no words said by either of us. Is this something you encounter or do yourself?

if I make eye contact I probably will. I dunno it just feels like some sort of acknowledging that we looked at each other. but mostly I don't make eye contact so I don't do this

I say hi or nod my head to everyone I pass when walking or on a run

I dont go out much but one of the few things I regularly do every week is grocery shop. People always smile at me when we make eye contact in the grocery store and pass each other. Whenever I stop at my local convenience store and pass someone as Im entering or exiting the store they always smile when we make eye contact.

So yes I think its extremely common for many people.

Yeah, that's pretty common. If I make eye contact with them, I'll usually give them a quick "morning/afternoon" or "how's it going?"

I live in a city so casual friendliness isn't really something on my radar. I've only noticed people smiling at me like this when it's just us, if literally anyone else is around in any capacity it's just the typical "pretend the other person isn't there unless they're in the way" like I expect and get 99.99% of the time.
