Also I love God of War 2018 but... you press the L3 L-button stick to have the character run. So while pushing the left stick forward, also pushing it in to click it and have the character run? That's gotta be considered awful right?

GOW2018 released on a console that allowed you to customize controls on a system level, and also released a back-button attachment for the DS4. The PS5 also allows customized controls on a system level and the Dualsense Edge. Most games also allow customizing controls, although I can't recall if GOW2018 let you, but still the bottom line is control complaints have been kind of a moot point for a while.

It's been like that since the previous games.
Can't remember about 1&2, but 3 already did it.

I wish more games would handle collectibles the way Okami did. They were individually numbered, so instead of it saying "you got a stray bead", it said "you got stray bead #x". So if you're missing, say, beads number 44, 67, and 91, you could just look up those specific ones. It's FAR more effective than cross-referencing a guide and double-checking locations.

Yeah that was nice of them. And Okami was a ps2 game to boot. If old ps2 games had that like GTA San Andreas... crazy how as young teens we completely put up with 100 spray tags, 50 horseshoes, 50 clams, all unnumbered. I never even bothered with the hidden packages in gta 3 and vice city, and only did it in GTA SA because I loved that game so much.

Even modern games don't do it. I didn't bother with the remaining 900 korok seeds in breath of the wild after maxing out my inventory, however if they were numbered I probably would have collected them all, since it doubles as an excuse to just traverse and enjoy the game world after being op with max gear and weapons.

Then again I think what most modern games do instead (like ubisoft ac) is simply put all the collectables on the map, so you don't have to find it. I know gamers turn their noses up at it but I like that and like doing it because again, for me it's about relaxing and taking in the game world, whilst doing the missions and interacting with the environment and enemies and such. I don't play those sandbox ubisoft collectables back-to-back of course, but once every couple of years is fine.

I really hate game menus with slow-ass cursors instead of directional controls.

In-game remappable controls. Volition did this for Red Faction II on PS2, PC, XBX, and NGC over 20 years ago.

YES!! It made me want to stop playing the old GTA games because the controls were before standardized things like "L2 to ADS, R2 to fire".

On harder difficulties, you do less damage while the enemy does more. That irritates me a lot.

Houses which are just some random objects in a landscape, but don't even have a texture of a door.

Even worse if it's a whole village/city, and the only 3 doors are inn/shop/home of that quest NPC.

Games that think that "harder difficulty" = "your NPC teammates are just dumber"

When your path is blocked by some knee high obstacles that could easily be stepped over but lol nope

A chapter select option still not being standard, especially for RPGs. It's 2024, I shouldn't have to replay an entire game just because I missed one piece of dialogue from an NPC I have no reason to talk to that's only available in one tiny window halfway through the game. (I had to go through that specific nightmare with Tokyo Xanadu for 100% completion of the character archive, which was required for an achievement. Thankfully, I knocked it out quickly and enjoyed it well enough, but no one should have to do that anymore!)

Explosive splash damage not properly taking obstacles and terrain changes into account, mostly in Bethesda games; which usually translates to a Super Mutant being completely unscathed by a Mini-Nuke blast simply because he was standing behind a waist-high chain link fence (predictably, the Player Character rarely if ever gets this kind of protection).

or look it up on youtube or something

Unwinnable battles in RPGs, but you're not aware you're not supposed to win. Goodbye, all consumables.

Yeah, but I'm kind of a completionist, and sometimes, an achievement is locked behind that dialogue, like in the example I included~

A lot of these complaints aren't really petty. Not being able to swap button controls is a big deal, especially if have been playing a certain setup for a long time and now you need to unlearn it all for one game (looking at you Nioh and the inability to rebind the B button)

after a couple of recent updates, the player interaction menu was made even worse. Why does it take so much effort just spawn your damn car now? I also dont like the fact that vehicles with the ability to use VTOL, had their button scheme to initiate vtol mode remapped to the R3 button out of every single button Rockstar could pick the GOD DAMN MOTHER FUCKING R3 button. Like literally the most inconvenient place to pick when you also control your aircraft with the Right analog stick, simply feels unintuitive and unresponsive at times
