hope we get hd ports for prime 2 and 3 before 4 comes out

Why does everyone keep saying that Metroid Prime 4 will most likely be a cross gen release like Breath of the Wild was? I am genuinely out of the loop on any Switch successor news. Have they said the new console will release next year?

They already announced that they will announce the successor this year.

That's it.

EDIT: Fiscal year. So, March 31th 2025 at the latest.

Nintendo has already announced that the Switch successor will be announced at some point by the end of the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2025.

Also, some have noted that the Prime 4 gameplay show is too high-fidelity and too smooth to be running on the Switch hardware.

I kinda have a feeling it's actual Switch hardware considering how similar it looks to Prime Remastered, though there are a lot more moving parts to it than Prime 1. Wouldn't be surprised if it was next-gen footage in order to keep the framerate stable though.

But yeah, Nintendo's president already said that the Switch successor will be revealed before the end of the current fiscal year. So this was potentially the last Direct for the Switch itself.

Is that good or bad? I've never played Halo anything.

Halos 1-3 were masterpieces. I think 4 was decent, but after that it kind of fell off? At least I don't hear people singing the praises of 5 and 6 like they did 1-3.

It looking like Halo 4 is def a bad thing, since 4 is the worst Halo

However, that doesn't mean much for what MP4 has in store

I dunno looks pretty inline with Prime Remastered to me.

Prime Remastered proved Retro is still super talented, I don't have much trouble believing that is running on Switch.

What time does Perfect Dark come out

Yeah, I'm hype for DKCR here just because both current versions of the game have unique issues for me (the motion controls for the Wii version, and the screen size actually gives me trouble on the 3DS version especially when the camera zooms out).

It already is, but you have to download the Nintendo 64 17+ app from the eShop.

I was excited about Perfect Dark at first because I assumed Nintendo put effort into adding in updated control schemes... Apparently not. It's set up based on buying the N64 controller for Switch. So setting up dual stick controls requires changing around the controls for your entire Switch... Nintendo why...

Aren't those games just emulation? Have they updated any other ones at all?

I have no idea. I haven't paid for the NSO expansion yet, but I was considering it. I just assumed they would update the controls, since it's the only legitimate way to play these games on modern platforms.

Goldeneye and perfect dark are not things you should be playing on your switch in an era where you can play them on pc with mouse control in if you want

The controls in Perfect Dark aren't the best but I had a lot of fun playing through the first two levels again.

That will then be 2 years prior to the release of the console. And the Switch was a massive success unlike Wii U, so I wouldn't count on everything being ported. What if it just has backward capability?

Prime 4 will likely be released around the Switch 2 release window so that is a completely different situation.

My aim with a mouse and keyboard is dog shit. Any shooter I play on PC, I playing using an Xbox controller. But yeah, after looking into it, the Switch online versions are just emulations. Goldeneye got a remaster on Xbox with actual dual stick support though. Disappointed that didn't come to PC.

I guarantee you would play better even sucking at mouse and keyboard than any control scheme you could cook up on the switch barring buying an overpriced n64 controller reproduction or something. Goldeneye and PD go well beyond controller vs mouse territory and into these games were made with literally only one controller in mind territory

I can play with keyboard and mouse, therefore everyone must be able to! Smh

I remember being excited for Jet Force Gemini a couple months ago. Played about 20 minutes with frustrating controls before I just gave up.

It's looking great and there are a couple of nice effects in there we took a closer look at, but ultimately, all the evidence points to this game running on the original Switch. The internal rendering resolution counts out at 900p, which is the same as Metroid Prime Remastered.

"And as good as it is, there are some aliasing issues and even some very minor frame-rate drops. Everything about the visual make-up is consistent with a really well-made Switch game, where Retro has an excellent track record. I can imagine the development studio is really happy that people are making a connection with Switch 2, mind you.
