The reason they couldn't shift to DeSantis (the much more obviously evil candidate who had the vibe of a regular politician going back to normalcy) was that Trump was still hogging all the spotlight. If Trump is out of the picture, the GOP can do whatever they want and just use Trump as a martyr to push whoever they want. The GOP can't do that if Trump is still alive, because he obviously wants to be the centre of attention and will shut down anyone else. But if Trump is out of the picture, any "Trump would have supported Hitler McGee" would be good enough to get most of MAGA on board, especially if Trump isn't there to fight it. MAGA is just a cult, and they'll follow whoever the leader is. ... Copied to Clipboard!
