We had an appointment today cancelled because they couldnt find parking and the mother in law is furious because she says its their problem and that it should take however long it takes for them to find parking if they badly want to serve us

they just backed out of service for us today rather than risk a ticket for double parking in downtown San Francisco

are they justified to cancel on us if they cant find parking? or should they try harder if they badly want to serve us?

If there's no parking there's no parking, I'm not sure how "try harder" would magically cause parking to appear. Guessing there's stuff in Geek Squad's TOU or whatever about parking for appointments like this.

This

the onus is on the customer for there to be parking available imo

i do realize that sucks for people in crowded cities but it is what it is

EDIT: I used to work for a service company and it was in our contracts that the customer must provide parking. keep in mind servicers have to cart around a bunch of tools and parts too

Yeah this just sounds like an unfortunate circumstance that he has no control over. Getting upset at the repairman seems unwarranted.

Could you have offered him your parking spot if you have one?

Yep, and they also definitely had other appointments to get to. Spending 20-30 minutes to try to find parking sounds like their did their due diligence and made an effort.

Unfortunately we cant because we live in a condo and our parking management has very strict rules on who can park there. They even gave us problems over our rental car being in my parking spot while my car was getting fixed.

TC I'm gonna be honest with ya, I always get the warranty through best buy but everytime I've had to use it, they come out, wind up actually breaking my tv further like either cracking the screen or just frying the thing and I wind up having to go back down to the best buy and get a brand new tv. I mean its not the worst thing, but TV repair is super iffy especially with the panels being as thin as they are nowadays

How do you normally handle getting service to that building? I imagine it's one of those areas where street parking is always hard to find.

It's not at all the same thing. If you work at an office, your work location doesn't change every day, so you know what to expect each day.

For a repair person, they never know what kind of location they're going to until they get there.

It's not even remotely the same thing. As has been explained to you multiple times, this is absolutely going to be covered in Geek Squad's TOU or whatever, which you probably should have read before booking an appointment, and they 100% had other appointments to get to. Maybe stop whining.

Absolute joke topic and joke poster. Guarantee you didn't bother to mention to them that parking might be an issue, and that's absolutely something you would have known ahead of time.

I had honestly never even contemplated this scenario. I live in a rural area in the Midwest. The idea that someone wouldnt have parking at my residence is literally not possible.

As for your scenario Id be disappointed but also understand. They did everything they could and have a schedule to keep. Id be frustrated to be charged for the cancellation though.

Ummm...I'm assuming you've never worked in a big city then. Before my job became at-home due to COVID, I paid for parking out of my own pocket in a public lot...like 95% of every other downtown worker.

Even if you work in an office building that has a parking facility underneath it, the companies don't own it. It is owned by the building and they don't just give out free parking. They are usually all public lots used all week long for anyone parking downtown, even on weekends.

It's either that or public transit. You think every company in a city has a private parking lot for employees? LOL.

Disagree here though. It may apply to some cities, but not all. You're in for a rough time if you try to get everywhere by walking here in Los Angeles.

that's true, I was thinking mostly east coast since I live in MA. it definitely depends on the city

I lived in Tempe, AZ for like 9 months and I loved the roads there, but you could tell that was a city that someone designed ahead of time and not something that expanded naturally as people settled in new spots

Well, since I never actually agreed with that I guess I don't have to worry about that.

Here's a little snippet from one of my posts. In fact it is from the same one you quoted but you being the honest person you are just decided to omit it :
