Speeding should get a harsher punishment

So why make cars that go faster than the speed limit?

• Speed limits vary. In town it might be 25. In a school zone it is 20. Outside of town it varies wildly from road to road and state to state, typically as low as 55 to maybe 85 in places. Some rare places have no limit. Which speed shouldn't they exceed?
• If you mean limiting performance (power, torque) instead of a speed limiter, that doesn't just effect top speed. It also effects acceleration and your ability to get up a hill. If you limit cars to like 65 horsepower so they can't go very fast, they'll also take forever to accelerate and may struggle to make it up large/steep hills.

So why make cars that go faster than the speed limit? This is like putting a loaded gun in a toddlers hand, then blaming the toddler for doing something stupid with it.

speeding tickets are also a dumb idea.

I think I read an article of Amazon wanting to do a similar to thing to sick workers, essentially a worker would call in sick and they would report to the workers doctor "hey this guy is sick, make an appointment to make sure he's really sick!"

The obvious solution is to perfect the tech for self driving cars. Take human error out of the equation.

If the technology is advanced enough to do this, really the car should be able to limit your speed. People have said "But what about emergencies" like that's some gotcha. If you have your emergency lights on I'm sure it would be disabled.

Basically this comes across as intentionally trying to engineer for increased punishment instead of increased safety.

They want the new cars to report everyone around them. You couldn't even avoid it by driving an older car if they start doing it.

Cars should've had that from the start, were the tech capable. Driving is not a right, and speeding is a crime.

Also, if you disable the limiter with emergency lights, what's to stop someone from just unplugging their blinkers and speeding? "Oh sorry officer, my light(s) must've just burnt" or something

if cops actually cared about reducing crashes, they'd be out there patrolling in person. sending someone a ticket in the mail days/weeks after they are caught by a speed trap doesn't increase safety

I'm all for it actually. There are a lot of dumb motherfuckers who have no right being behind the wheel. I would also love to see an automatic cell phone disabler.

Tesla got away with the cameras because they were just a security measure against damage to the vehicle itself. A vehicle that reports other people is grounds for a fight.
