Even discounting the fake quotes, it's crazy that their marketing strategy is, "Yeah, sure, it might suck now, but you'll think it's a classic in a couple decades"

,What gave the original its charm was the emotional tie to Brandon Lees death, and it came out in a time where the goth culture was being monetized ala grunge.

This remake looks to have none of that while regurgitating the same supernatural bad ass returned from the grave to avenge the wrongdoing while wearing mascara and a trenchcoat archetype.

I would have been willing to give it a chance but considering that it's not actually trying to be closer to the comics (and in fact appears to stray even further), there was literally zero reason to have this character be named Eric Draven. It's especially awful to release this during the 30th anniversary of the original.

So out of curiosity what they do in the comics that is so different? I have never read them so even just a few examples would be great if it isnt too much trouble obviously.

For one, it was originally ambiguous if Eric actually died and that a magical crow brought him back to the land of the living to get revenge on his and his fiance's killers, or if the severe physical trauma he suffered and the death of his fiance caused him to become delusional and think that he was killed that same night and came back from the grave a year after his "death". However, the 2011 rerelease of the original comics did end up going with the explicitly-supernatural interpretation that the Brandon Lee movie had previously presented as the unambiguous truth of what happened.

I never watched the original, but knowing what happened... a remake or whatever this is feels kind of disrespectful. I know it's been 20 years or whatever, but it feels you do after at least 30 or 40.

they're all different characters and stories. this one attempts to reuse the character from the original story/movie/comic and tries to pass it off as a 'remake' when it's really just a full twilight-style-reboot with very little to do with the actual original besides the characters' names
