I genuinely dont understand what theyre doing here with this bullshit. Just crank it to $7 all around! Without the app/rewards bs! Itd probably go over way better especially with your long term viability

They have to get your data so they can sell it and profit while giving u a shitty sub

I know why Subway charges so much for their subs (to ensure they meet minimum hourly sales to maintain (profitability) viability) but they're at the wrong end of the supply/demand.

Demand is at (an all time) low because nobody is paying that much for a sub.

This $7 deal isn't going to spur any long term interest in Subway. All it's really going to do is annoy people even more because it's obvious Subways that are participating can (ostensibly) afford to take the hit but when weeks later the prices are back to normal, people are going to be rightfully annoyed that they're paying double or more.

Stores will point at increased wages as to why prices are up but if you made the product a good deal, you'd make up the extra dollars per sub in bulk sales.

Why would I ever go to Subway? The local joints around me are better quality ingredients, stuffed with more food, and costs less to boot.

Subway is bottom tier trash, and has been for the better part of the last decade.

Their subs are not even worth that much.

I'm guessing it's only for a couple of weeks because they don't want to commit to it long-term until they see how it goes. But I don't see how they survive without making this a regular thing even if it's just on certain subs.

McDonald's app gives me free food. You gotta beat that first

Subway is dead to me and I hope they all close. I will go hungry before I give them money or even eat their food at all again. Maybe if I was starving, but there'd never be a situation like that. I gain resolve every time my stomach rumbles and the only place to eat in my field of vision is a Subway.

I mean this makes a lot more sense than a bunch of other apps because you're placing an order and want to get it at the nearest location.

More so useful when travelling and I'm unfamiliar with an area.

I turned location off for every app except my phone and camera. It's amazing how much more battery life I have now, ~3 days.

Just Paypal, and a banking app otherwise. No restaurants, retailers, or supermarkets. They don't need to know where I am, and I'll find them just fine.

Thank god i have a sub shop a block away from subway that i support a whole lot more.

They dont skimp on any of the meats. Gotta go and support my local businesses over corporate greed.

Can't you set it to only give location when you're actively using the app.

Even at their peak, Subway's quality was only mid and it has gotten so much worse over the last two decades while doubling (or in some cases tripling) in price. Fuck Subway. I'd rather have a sub from a gas station in Bumfuck, Nowhere because it'll taste better and cost less than Subway. Not to mention actual other sandwich shops like JM, JJ, FH, etc.

App only deals should be illegal.

I'd think so but sometimes apps with the permission set like that get really fucky if you leave the app at all or turn your screen off. It really is/can be 'only when you're actively using the app'.

I don't want to order McDonald's 15 minutes away then have to keep the order screen open for the next 15 minutes just so it doesn't glitch out or something.

My understanding for McDonald's is that it uses your location to determine when you're "close" to the store so they can start making your food while waiting in line i guess?

The only thing worth getting at Subway is the meatball sub, and it's not even good by meatball sub standards it's just really hard to fuck up a meatball sub. And half the time I go there they're out of meatballs. Maybe they're hemorrhaging customers because they don't ship any fucking ingredients out.

Yeah, that's what I'd do. If you're going to charge me more than I planned on paying, then I don't want it.

Subway's business model is terrible - they oversaturate areas with stores, charge a higher royalty and advertising fee than most chains, and their solution to stores not making enough money is "Let's have pro athletes hype up some sandwiches with no meat in them so that we can charge $16".

The prices at Subway are so ridiculous - they're charging more than fast-casual (i.e. Qdoba and Chipotle) and you're getting less food.

Yeah, but it's not like it's a crime. They just overshot the equilibrium price that and now they're correcting it.

It's not like they can see the supply and demand curves on paper. They make a price adjustment and see how it affects the bottom line. And sometimes they guess wrong. *shrugs*

It ends September 8 and can only be used via the website or app? It's just a ploy to collect a shit load of new user data that they can sell to advertisers.

They proactively screw over their franchisees by encouraging the opening of more locations in order for the franchisees to compete, they take a higher percentage of advertising and royalty fees than other chains, and now they're going to force the franchisees to make up the difference in revenue caused by this corporate-mandated promotion?

Oh, that's why. They're owned by a Private Equity Firm called Roark Capital Group. It's widely known that anything PE touches turns to shit, so no surprises there

I'm just assuming that the francihisees are taking the hit because the promotion exists only if you buy through the app, so the franchisees can't refuse it, like they do with coupons.

It was about whether it counts for the purpose of VAT. It's not like they just swooped in and forced Subway to change all their signs and menus.

I'm sure they try. Europe is very weird about this kind of thing (granted, Ireland isn't usually the source of it, it tends to be France and Italy).
