Massive Hitchcock fan so yes.

Yes. They played this on tv a lot when I was younger in the early 80's. Have seen it multiple times. I watched it a few years ago as an older adult and it was much tamer than I remember it being as a kid. I hadn't watched it in a very long time but I watched the documentary "The Girl" about Hitchcocks obsession with Tippi Hedren and made me want to watch again. In fact as an adult it honestly made me chuckle more than having any feelings of suspense or build up at all.

Weirdly no. I've seen maybe 10 Hitchcock movies but not that one.

My best memory of this movie has to do with my older sister. (She was probably 16 at the time) She had just watched this film earlier in the day and wouldn't you know it a bird got into our house via the chimney. It was flying all around the first floor. She freaked out and I mean freaked the fuck out. I'll never forget the sheer panic as she called our mother at work for assistance. All the while I was laughing my ass off. My mom called one of our neighbors and they sent over their sons with tennis rackets in hand to remove the poor little bird.

Tbh, it's not one of my favorites. I feel bad watching it because of all the abuse Hitchcock put Tippi Hedren through during the filming.

Was it on the level of Kubrick and Shelly Duvall? That almost ruins The Shining for me.

It was significantly worse, I'd say. Hedren has alleged in the past that Hitchcock sexually harassed her during production, and during the filming of the attack scene in the attic, he spent an entire week throwing live birds at her after he promised he would only use mechanical ones. She nearly lost an eye at one point because one of them was thrown at her face, and the experience basically left her as catatonic in real life as her character was in the film.

Yeah. I might have just been too young, but I didn't get it at all.

In the Psycho shower scene, he scared her so bad that she refuses to take a shower to this day. She was so traumatized that she will only take a shower when forced to and then with all the lights on and the curtain open to see.

Hitchcock was a great director but he wanted real terror from people in his movies and he took that to an extreme.

At first I was going to start throwing hands over the suggestion that High Anxiety is shitty. But then I realized you were probably being literal in this specific case and I had a good chuckle over it.

Nah I am talking about just birds being the big threat in movies, the classic example is Birdemic which is beyond bad. We also have some other lesser known movies though that are bad like Beaks, none of them ever became hugely well known but just pointing out many have tried to make their own The Birds.

High Anxiety is a fine movie and some have made good similar movies to what Hitchcock has made.

I just thought it was funny that you said 'shitty' when The Birds parody segment of High Anxiety has hundreds of pigeons literally shitting all over Mel Brooks.

I flip it a lot.

It also has one of the very best musical scores and soundtracks ever in cinema.
