The most surprising aspect of Shinji Mikami's discussion with IGN was, without a doubt, his candid perspective on Resident Evil 4 Remake compared to his work on the original Resident Evil 4. In particular, Mikami was impressed by how well the team behind Resident Evil 4 Remake fleshed out the "half-assed scenario" that he had written in just two weeks. From Mikami's perspective, the premise of the original Resident Evil 4 was something far from perfect a hastily put-together mess.

The remake was able to succeed where he failed by having a deep understanding of the game's characters and their interpersonal interactions. "A good understanding of the backbone of each character" enabled the remake team to improve upon just about everything related to the narrative. Even down to the dialogue, Mikami was impressed by how well Resident Evil 4 Remake was able to build off his work.

RE4 is probably one of the top 10-15 most highly regarded games of all time.

It seems somewhat common for creators of something really good to consider it flawed. The OT wasnt really Lucass vision, Takahashi called Xenogears a failure (though some would agree), etc

Well I love both the original RE 4 and the remake of RE 4.

I really hope that they do a great job with RE 5s remake whenever they do it.

Will be hoping that CV fans get a good remake of that game.

I just recently played the remake for the first time and he's totally right. Things like combat scenarios, map layouts, and character motivations are either more fleshed out or changed for the better.

But crowbat said RE4 remake is not the same and so it sucks now though.
