Mystery_man2 posted... Do dead people in coffins count? This. The only dead person I've seen was in an open casket funeral for someone I didn't know. All of my family that has died was cremated so I never actually saw their non-living body. Seen plenty of dead animals, though. Roadkill is extremely common here. Worst though was seeing a dead puppy on a median, and having to personally kill a baby mouse that my pet gecko couldn't quite eat properly. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Yes, I've been to multiple funerals. I also basically watched my dad die in the hospital when he flatlined. And then I had to stand there while my mother was basically breaking down and one of the nurses had to come over and ask us "Hey, do you want us to keep trying to resuscitate him, because there's almost no chance it's going to work and even if it does we're probably going to break his ribs", so that was totally awesome and not psychologically scarring in any way. Fortunately (?), I missed my mother dying because she died early in the morning a few hours after I moved her into hospice. Though arguably in that case it was kind of worse than watching her die, because beforehand when they took her off the ventilator she was on, but before the morphine drip kicked in, I got to have the wonderful experience of watching her gasping for breath and begging for help because she didn't understand what was happening. And again, totally awesome and not psychologically scarring in any way, and I certainly didn't have to leave the hospital before I just completely broke down weeping and then go home and get really, really drunk that night. But hey, at least her ashes aren't currently sitting in a box in my closet. Oh wait, they are. Good thing I was raised by a family with a long line of stoic men who view emotions as weakness so I could totally suck all that up and internalize it and lock it away and just never process it in any meaningful way. I'm sure that will never have any negative consequences. FrozenBananas posted... Yes multiple times, including a person and 2 pets die in front of me, and yes it is If we're counting pets, I basically had to sit with my dog when we had to put her down, and just slowly pet her to keep her calm when she started to slowly go to sleep, and that certainly wasn't one of the three worst moments of my life either (oh wait, it totally was). About the only positive there is that it happened at the vet and we kind of knew going in that it was going to happen, and it was because her quality of life was just falling apart after she'd lived a long life. A friend of mine had his cat literally curl up on his lap while he was playing games online and just sort of mewed at him a bit and just died (though he kind of knew that was the end while it was happening as well). it kind of messed him up for a while. --- "Wall of Text'D!" --- oldskoolplayr76 "POwned again." --- blight family ... Excluding funerals, I may have seen one a few weeks ago. Humans, no, but if we're counting pets, two have died nearby but out of my view (one, a budgie, my partner was carrying her to the car when she passed; the other, a cockatiel, he was in the backseat on the way to the vet and didn't make it there) and a third (another cockatiel) died literally right in front of me (she was clearly not well, so I was holding her, and then she just suddenly went crazy, attempted to fly but just collapsed onto the ground, fluttered around a little bit then stopped and she was gone). Yep... Last year a guy was flying down the highway at 150 mph on a motorcycle, and hit a van broadside that was turning left and crossing his lane. Happened right outside my house - I heard it happen and saw it seconds later. Yes and not really. It was on a stretch of road that brings out the worst in people. 2 lane highway, one lane goes left, one lane goes right. The right lane is always busier, so you got ****heads who drive as far up on the left lane and possible and hope to merge into the right. I've seen a van flipped over, at least a dozen multi car pile ups and unfortunately that body that was clearly launched from a vehicle. The city's solution was to put flexible and sturdy beams between the 2 lanes leading up to the split. Did it prevent people from being *****? Nope. When I was a kid (I think I was 9 or 10, not sure) the neighborhood hadn't heard from a neighbor in a while and we were kind of wondering what's going on. We knocked on the door and got no answer, but they left a tiny window open and it smelled bad in there. They sent me in there because I could fit in the window and asked me to unlock the front door. There the neighbor was, dead on the floor. They told me later that they suspected the neighbor was dead but didn't tell me until after. That's a smell you'll never forget. ... Copied to Clipboard!
