The first guy turned down the job for health reasons and there are no other qualified candidates. Thankfully it isnt a grant based job. Ill have a permanent position working with landowners to meet their objectives. I am so fucking stoked right now.

Please explain how this is better/different than your current position. Afterwards, I will provide you with large amounts of hype, but i need material to work with. I don't want to give you a subpar experience

What kind of objectives? Are you going to be working primarily with folks planting timber for harvest, or reforestation projects, etc? Is this via DOF (or your nation's equivalent)?

That's awesome! Now you can do some forest land management instead of counting trees and plants.

The new job isnt grant based and will put me and my wife in a much better location on the border of Indiana and Illinois.

Whatever the landowner wants. It could be merchantability for their timber, hunting, or their desire to see more wildlife.

So how does that work? They contact <government agency> who then sends you out? Is that a free service or something they have to pay for? How would you say this job is different than that of an arborist?

Holy fuck! This sounds amazing for you and your wife. Instead of being at the whim of a grant, you're now able to tell those grant officers to eat shit. Also, being near both Indiana and Illinois sounds pretty kick ass. I'm assuming if you advance any more, then you'll be able to redraw the borders to your liking. If they don't comply, then you can hold the trees as ransom. Things are looking up for Mr. and Mrs. Stoner. You two deserve it

It isnt free, but I technically am an arborist. Some people prefer to have the state level government assess their property than a private company. We get calls to assess their property value and we oversee the BMPs of logging crews, among other things. Like how the logging crews impact soil. We also prevent harmful chemicals from entering local water sources.

That's a wonderful choice

We closed on (what is supposed to be) our forever home last month and I've been trying to plan out some of our landscaping. Going full native (with maybe a patch for non-native non-invasive for my wife) is kind of my central tenet. A small food forest is really important to me, and I'm hoping to be able to accommodate some cherries (7b, VA, DOF has Black Cherry at 10 for $20). We're experiencing a cold snap right now so it was probably for the best that we delayed picking things up, and can really take our time figuring out what and where to source.

Good luck to you with your job. Not only is it something that will hopefully bring you fulfillment and joy, but you're also doing something really important.

This was one of the career paths my friend suggested. The others where reopen the business(till she went blind this was the plan). Another was what I did for her. I think if I had stayed healthy this would have been my first choice.

Thanks man. If you need any suggestions on the landscaping let me know. Autumn Blaze Maples (theyre a hybrid between red and silver maples) really make a property pop.
