I do on $4k-5k (AUD).

I live fortnight to fortnight. Cost of living definitely factors in, but it's more on my spending habits.

I make about a quarter of that.

Mortgage + bills per month is at least 2k, then I have a car note and insurance which bumps that to over 3k. So it would be doable but a little tight.

Sometimes I regret how much I spend monthly on the car, but I also didn't want to settle and got something where I'm not even tempted to look at another vehicle for at least 10 years.

I could probably do it, but would need to make some changes in my life. The mortgage + bills would eat up about 75% of that.

That would be a massive improvement. That's more than my whole household brings in. So if just one of us gets that much we'd be set.

Easily. ALL my bills, I mean everything. Im talking even property taxes and insurance, food, gas, every household cost, legit EVERYTHING cost me $1,500 a month. My house is 100% paid for and my vehicle so that obviously makes a difference but most months I only see $1,000 a month leave my account because I pay my property taxes once a year and insurance once a year. So that cost is sort of hidden because I dont see it on a month to month basis but in reality that cost me about $500 a month so I factor that into the $1,500.

But 10 months out of the year I only have $1,000 a month going out. Its why I save/invest 80% of my monthly check those months.

Now for those of you who will say thats an unfair scenario because my house is paid off lets look at the apartment I lived in before I bought my house?

You can get a 2 bedroom apartment at around 800 square feet which is the size of a standard starter family home ranch house here and it will cost $830. This comes with free high speed cable really good Internet, free water/garbage, and the only thing you have to pay is utilities. I lived there and know how cheap utilities are. They cost like $50 a month.

Hell I only pay $122 in my 2,700 square foot house so I know those apartment utilities are cheaper. So with the exception of food and any vehicle payments you can live in that nice apartment for just under $900 a month and it comes with a pool and a dog park.

So yeah $4,000 where I live you can easily have 50% of your money left when renting a nice apartment. And that is in an expensive college town. Cheaper places can be found and buying homes is still very reasonable here. Plenty of small towns 10 to 20 miles outside bigger cities have lots of nice homes under $200K.

Living in the Midwest is a cheat code to an easy financial life. We gave a group of about 7 guys that started as trainees with no experience at my job in the last 5 years. They all started off making about $50K a year which would be less take home than this. They are all currently 30 or 31 years old, most have kids and all of them had no problems buying houses in the last 2 years and they all drive decent vehicles.

You can 100% live comfortably on $4k a month where I live with room to spare for entertainment/extras. No doubt. I bring home more than that and truthfully Im just working for the insurance coverage. Money isnt really an issue and hasnt been for many years. Its why I was able to pay my house off in my 30s and not have vehicle payments. Make fun of flyover country all you want. I love the low population and cheap cost of living thank you.
