I've noticed with every car I've had, it seems I need to drive up to the pumps in the opposite direction of most other people. I'm currently driving a Nissan Sentra and the intake is on the passenger side. Previous cars have been a Dodge Neon and a Ford Contour. Not really sure what is supposed to be typical.

I pump my fuel on the passengers side, that is, the left side. Japanese car.

Huh, I guess I should have specified more options (Passenger/Left, Passenger/Right) for different countries.

Driver/Left. The passenger side is technically better, since it means you're in a safer position if you have to add gas on the side of the road, but it's rare enough that that happens that it doesn't make a huge difference either way.

Hey... this makes me wonder

There are a few cars that take in gas from the center, either the front or the back (edit; not at the same time, i mean by the model)... do modern gas pipes reach that far?

I think I prefer it on passenger side cause sometimes lining up close to the pump makes it harder to get out of your car cause often there's high curbs or posts there, but my car has it on the driver side

Every car I have ever owned has been on the passenger side (right), which is apparently rare. I always get dirty looks from people when I drive up on a different side as them, like somehow my car having a gas pump on the passenger side is my fault.

Yes! I always feel like they're judging me for it, even if I don't see them doing it. I also tend to have to maneuver awkwardly just to swing my car around the correct direction because most others come in the other way.

They're mostly luxury sports cars, right? I'd imagine it being difficult to fuel at a typical fuel station.

Easily, at least all the ones I've seen. Although I thought that practice had long since been abandoned due to the way such cars can turn into fireballs in the slightest fender bender.

My Caprice has the gas cap behind the license plate in the middle of the car. I've always thought this was the best way to do it, since you can pull up to either side.

Left/driver's. Anyone notice there's a tiny little arrow beside the gas pump icon on their dash that points in the direction your gas flap is on?

it doesnt really matter but it also seems pointless. You really should only need to know once which side its on. And even if you dont know, the first time you fill up in your new/rented caryou just move to a different pump. And then from then on you know.
