no.

I like how a lot of CRPGs have a finite set of enemies, and as long as you explore, win fights/pass dialogue checks, etc., you should be strong enough to progress throughout the game.

As a long time fan of turn-based JRPGs, I've never really minded grinding.

It's a good opportunity to spin some records and have a more casual and relaxing gaming session. I also like grinding when I'm starting to get kinda drunk and don't want to continue with the story but also don't want to stop playing just yet.

Lemme amend my answer

RPG grinding isn't too bad.

But I now associate grinding with live-service shit, like grinding for items or weapons or costumes (or pay $30 to get it right away!). That can fuck right off.

Pends. Grinding will inevitably become a chore at some point, but games like Star Ocean 2 really take their time getting to that point.

Depends on the game. If I'm enjoying it, I'm perfectly fine with grinding.

Depends.

Older games like DQ1, I'm fine with. Partly because it's more excusable. And partly because most older games are shorter and faster paced to begin with.

Newer or slower games? Get that crap outta here. ......Or at least let me automate it.

I have a problem, I love grinding in rpgs as long as you are making progress. Something like an MMO when you get to the point you can spend a 10 hour grind session and not gain a level loses me.

If I am having fun, and actually am getting rich or getting good loot I dont mind it. I actually liked roll hunting in destiny 1 and you would still get fun stuff even if it wasnt optimal.

Yes, but only if the gameplay is good and it doesn't feel like a chore. When I have to spends hours of irl time to gain a level, I'm already checked out.

It's why I never stuck with any of the mmos I used to play.

I love grinding from an RPG perspective. Always have. Whether to max myself out from a level perspective or running quests looking for rare drops from a loot/material perspective. I fucking LOVE it and Im not kidding.

I remember when White Knight Chronicles came out on ps3 and in the first 7 months I put 1,350 hours into my game grinding for materials and guild rank. I put thousands of hours into my Farming Simulator games basically grinding for money to buy equipment and expand my farm. Post game Disgaea has always been a blast for me.

I LOVE grinding.

depends on the grind

I enjoy filling a good prize meter or XP bar. I don't like "alright catch 1000 fish because it's a checklist item"

I like building up to goals, but I hate *meaningless* goals. Give me a task like "collect 400 stone for a Useful Shortcut", don't give me a task like "collect 400 stone because the NPC is really bored and might give you 20 gold for it"

I'll fight monsters all day if the fight's fun enough, that's not really grinding in my eyes

Grinding in the early game, I don't mind, cuz you are also learning about the game and mechanics

Late/post game? Anything more than 5 hours is excessive, but these days having twitch or YouTube on makes grinding far less repetitive.

Drop rates below 20% are bullshit tho.

If the gameplay's fun/varied then yeah. I could play ME3's multiplayer for 1000 hours and not get bored. Same goes Monster Hunter titles since I've been playing every weapon for four out of the six games I've played there.

It depends on a lot of factors. There needs to be enough instances of progression during the process (leveling up, learning skills, being able to buy new gear) so that I am feeling like I'm accomplishing something as I go.

Another major factor is based on the game itself. Load times, how long battles take, how practical it is to run back to save. Additionally, how much attention do I need to pay while working on it?

It depends. Grinding inherently makes anything into a chore which isn't good, but as long as the process is enjoyable because of the core gameplay and the reward(s) are worthwhile, and it's basically optional, I'll do it of my own volition.

As an adult with kids and limited time to game, grinding is an annoyance.

It never bothered me when I had unlimited free time tho. If anything, I liked the sense of progress. Get stomped by a boss. Gain a few levels and go back for revenge.

I usually don't, but now that I'm on an XSX and can play Spotify simultaneously it's less of a pain.

So like trying to get a specific item off a specific guy in Borderlands 3 might see me reload the game 3 times in five minutes, having some tunes makes that less repetitive.

Then I've created a lot of weird associations between "electronics with lady vocalists" and Diablo 3 from keeping those playlists going.

It really depends on what kind of grinding it is. In Grim Dawn reputation farming means doing bounty quest and you only get 5 of those per session and can only take 1 at a time. So it's take bounty, potentially skip it if it's too annoying, get to area where bounty might be and run into enemies every 5 seconds along the way that take 0 thought to nuke or do whatever else the quest is, go back to bounty table, repeat a few times and then restart session. Something like that is fucking boring while I'm completely fine with grinding levels or farming the same monster over and over in MH.

Naw not as a adult but ot was fun grinding in old RPGs as a kid like golden sun on the GBA. The last game I played that required heavy grinding was destiny 1 and although I enjoyed it back then I can't bring myself to spend that much time on a game grinding with the limited amount of time I have to play.

I'm okay with a certain amount of grinding, but I only have so much free time, so I prefer when the game respects my time. Grinding to the max level takes a few hours? No problem. Grinding to the max level takes 100's of hours? Big problem.

It's why I've started to sour on MMO's, always online/live service games and mobile Gacha games. Because those games are designed around keeping you around for as long as possible and keep selling more things to you.
