Why the fuck can't I play lawn darts?

This is actually how a shooting happened at my highschool (but years after I graduated)

Kid found his dad's gun and used it to shoot his friends (he was crazy) and then himself, in the cafeteria at lunchtime. He shot like 5 people and I think only 1 survived.

I remember in middle school, the physical education department had archery supplies for the students, but our class wasnt allowed to use them. I asked the teacher why and he said that you guys would probably shoot each other. I thought about it and yeah, our class was filled with rowdy dumbasses.

The physical characteristics of different types of guns have different risk factors. For example, it is hard to conceal a rifle, and it is harder to accidentally shoot yourself with a hunting rifle (compared to a pistol). And if we're literally talking about the 60s, "hunting riles" did not include a barbie-dolled-up assault weapons.

All I see here is further gun blaming. Considering the matter logically what you're really talking about is human error, which could prevented through education. I'm not going to respond to the "assault weapon" part. I don't even like guns personally but these things are just machines, like any other, and can't be discussed with emotionally charged ridiculous fantasy terms. That's not how adults talk.

The US averages 40,000 traffic fatalities per year, a higher number than firearm deaths. If we should crack down on lethal objects the case can easily be made that your car deserves to be restricted more than all the guns in the land. After all, people's lives are more important than your tool.

Cars already are. You have to have a license to legally own one, ownership is registered, and every few years you have to show you are still competent to use it. But the gun lobby (or NRA as its called) refuses to even consider such basic things.

Guns should be more restricted, cars should be more restricted, nothing is being done about mental health or gun culture and if police even expect there's a gun they have free range to shoot.

Bad parents imo

The vehicle comparison is stupid specifically because theyre not comparable in anyway. Hell you dont even need a license to own a car and for most the country you dont need one to drive on your own property either. Even taking out the whole constitution thing and the US' actual gun ownership rate, cars are significance more dangerous and require you to know a 100 different rules and regulations to operate (a one ton chunk of metal going 60mph surrounded by other individuals likewise) safely on public roads. Guns arnt that complicated and all of there rules basically boil down to common sense and anything else can be found out in a 5minute youtube video of which anything mandatory isnt trying to keep people safe, its to put a stop gap on something just cause you can.

But the difference is that there have been no personal automobile bans and no one is calling for one, unlike with guns. That says a lot. If we're being rational adults we see there's no essential difference between these two leading causes of death and destruction and they should be treated equally.

Frankly if I had the power they'd both be wiped from the earth and you people would need to take the bus. Why should I suffer four metric tons of steel doing illegal turns at pedestrian crossings billions of times per year and someone telling me that's kosher just because it's licensed but some redneck's "assault weapon" sitting on his rack is the menace to society? It's illogical.

No, nobody is calling for automobile bans because there hasn't been generations of cultural prejudice stirred against them by the mass media and government schools, and everyone loves the goddamn things. Anyone not prejudiced can compare guns to cars and see the opposition to the one is almost entirely emotional, if not also driven by ulterior motives.

Theres nothing wrong with guns. The issue is that any psychopath can get one within an hour.

Then theres negligent owners who should be charged with murder in the event that one of their kids hurts themselves.

I grew up with guns, but my parents made the smart move and took me to a hunters education course before I was allowed to even hold one. It stuck, too.
