I don't think I'm a journalist.

"Dude with horrible speaking voice info dumping for 45 minutes as if he's the first person to discover some shit everyone's familiar with" is one of the YouTube subgenres of all time

Every now and then you might get lucky and stumble across someone who actually has insightful opinions and research, but as Sturgeon's Law states 99% of everything is crap, and that applies to reviews as well as the product.

Why are there so many hour long vids of things that take 10 minutes to say

Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

No one is entitled to an audience for their opinion.

I miss the early era of 1+ hour video essays, because they generally seemed well researched and written.

Now-a-days it's like "Buds I deep dived this wikipedia article and imma just give you a 2 hour stream of consciousness opinion on this"

I hate those long form videos so much. People stretch topics that take like 30 seconds of explanation to 90 minutes of fluff

I was thinking the same thing recently about everyone being a photographer now, but not in a negative way. Everyone thinking theyre a news personality is annoying, but this is the ONLY way that we get the perspective of people like ourselves.

Media personnel are VIPs and they dont follow the same rules or budgets that we do. Every network suppresses whatever they think we dont need to know and citizen journalists bust that stuff wide open and make sure theyre reading about it from here to China. The people deserve information and a wide range of perspectives.

Everything about YouTube, and social media generally, is designed to promote volume and frequency over quality.

They are the tedious living proof that editing your thoughts down into a tight and concise form is an underrated skill.
