The ratings are low.

It's for very similar reasons TLOU2 the game got review bombed. Fan favorite character Joel meets with a golf club.

That said, I thought it was okay. It's not better or worse than the game but it did make me appreciate the game more. There were just some changes I thought were cool and some changes I didn't like.

the game was good, but they caved in with the show to avoid the backlash the game received, and its overall quality suffered as a result.

Ellie was great in season 1 but just unbearably annoying this season. It often felt like she was being babysat whenever she was with another character

Just brushing off everyone who thinks it wasn't that good as that is really just brushing off geniune criticism. I won't deny that there are just bigots hating it, but Ellie is really weird in the show(Season 2 only specifically) and much worse than the game.

It has light roadtrip vibes which really didn't mesh well with the revenge arc. It feels very confused.

Nah this isnt a fair view of people who may not like it tbh. I dont like TLOU2 as much as 1, but I like the show even less than the game. People I know who didnt even play the games were tapping out by the end of season.

I thought it made a lot of changes that didnt benefit the format, nor the story they were trying to tell. Just change for the sake of it. Ellie feels like a very different character, and not in a way that could be interesting.

I don't think it was bad, the worst part is having to wait so long for Season 3 and then Season 4

Ellie was written pretty poorly this season. Inconsistent with game Ellie. Inconsistent with season 1 Ellie. Even inconsistent with season 2 Ellie.

Somehow everyone was smarter than her, even with things that Joel should and would have taught her with respect to combat.

A guy that Marlene was praising because he took Ellie to Utah by himself.

In th companion podcast, Mazin and Druckmann made it a point to talk about how smart Ellie is in just about every episode of the first season. I do not kno why they forgot this in the second season.

The 1st season of the show was definitely better, (and I'm not even a hater of how the story went in part 2 of the games).

anyway, with all my gripes with the second season, I still enjoyed it overall.

I don't think the second game's story is perfect, but I still think it's a masterpiece with what it attempts, accomplishes, and for the fact it doesn't hold back. overall, I'd give it a 9 - 9.5/10.

with the second season, though, it tries to skirt the line of being bold, like the second game, and playing it safe so that the audience doesn't abandon it, so it ends up with a weird, unsatisfying feel, IMO. 6.5-7/10.

casual viewers are going to be big mad when it takes four years to see Ellie not get revenge

The source material was already bad and then they reduced Ellie's competence for some reason.

So yeah, the pictures ITT mocking Bella's appearance are from the chuds that are review bombing the show.

I based my first sentence on the fact that the review bombing started after episode 2 when *it* happened. I wasn't really saying it was from bigots. Although the pictures in this topic probably aren't helping.

Haven't finished the season yet but from what I watched I kept thinking "damn the Walking Dead did all of this way better" which is also what I thought while playing the games.

Fuck the virgin chuds. Most of the discourse was "I don't find her attractive".

They should've had Ellie show off her badass skills. Kill a bunch of zombies and humans. Who cares if these moments loses it's realism aspect, and comes across like a video game at times. Especially when The Walking Dead had it's video gamey moments, and I didn't hear many complaints back then.

Ellie needs to be shown to be a lot smarter, more likeable, and have that determination for revenge. She lacked those traits this season, and the show suffered for it. I mean, the second game had the blueprint to follow when it came to adapting Ellie, and I don't know how they fucked her character up this badly.

It seems...cathartic for people who hated the game's story to see all this shit happen all over again.

Really, this made me appreciate the game in a way I didn't back then.

I took issue with Abby and Ellie never knowing exactly why their fathers were killed and said it was a big omission in the story connecting them both, but really...It's basic show, don't tell as the Shows insistence on spelling everything out to the person, and thus the viewer makes me realize how unnecessary it all was. In this world, murdering each other for less isn't out of the question, and as ellie herself admits, Joel had alot of enemies.

• Ellie's selfish pursuit of revenge was butchered, and softened her up to the clear detriment of the story - The earlier episodes come across as a field trip rom com rather than a grieving woman's descent into the poisoning revenge brings. Can't get over her being happy about Dina being pregnant in the show when in the game she was pissed off calling her a burden. Further, Dina is the one pressing Ellie on in the show.
• I still say ellie was badly miscast as she still looks...too young. That said...fuck the assholes going after the actress' looks. Fucking bullies/youtube whores need to grow up as that came off as bullying for as i'm concerned. It's just if there was ever a time to justify her casting, it's in the events of part 2, and whether it was the writing, or casting, she failed to me. Dream casting was always ellen/elliott page, but iirc, there was a lawsuit where he accused them of stealing his likeness back in the day.
• What needs to be praised in season 2 is the set designs -OMFG They put real effort in recreating everything from the game, and even throwing Easter eggs like a triangle when ellie grabbed something.

I agree with most of your points here, but I think the issue is the show did try to make her more likable. Ellie in the game is not a fun person to be around. She is bitter, angry, and grieving. She is outright unlikable in the game.

It's definitely the writing. When the show lets her act like the game Ellie, Ramsey does it well. The writers just decided they didn't want game Ellie.

Shes smart for her age. That doesnt mean she's smart for her age in the second game/season. And "smart" here equates more to experience... not simply intuition. She is intuitive, but that doesn't mean she's the most experienced at what she's trying to do(which inbthe second season is be joel).

I don't necessarily mind that Bella looks young, since Ellie is about 19 at the start of the game, but she looks a bit soft.

I don't think it matters now, but later in the game, Ellie almost looks like sticks and bones, and almost like a ghost, and idk if they'll be able to accomplish that with Bella.

It's not inexperience, a lot of what she does in the second season is just outright stupid. Ellie went to military school until she was fourteen. She should know what a protractor is even if she doesn't know how to triangulate. She should be able to plan a cross-country trip better than "throw a bunch of guns in a bookbag," even if she is blindingly furious.

And the inexperience argument doesn't even make sense because the one that constantly shows her up is Dina who is her age. Ellie is consistently shown to be dumber than she should be.

The game had her fail at being Joel. The show just kinda cuts that stuff out.

Ellie should have been at the very just as experienced as her companions.

There's 0 chance she learned nothing from Joel from the events of 1, and at least 1 of the years between the events where we were shown Joel(the one man army) was teaching her.

By making it so that Ellie's body count in her revenge quest can basically be counted on two hands, it kinda butchers the message that the game tries to make about blind vengeance/the cycle of violence.

I thought it started pretty strong but quickly fell off. Also it was shorter than the last season by two episodes for some stupid reason.

Its not bad, not as good as 1, but it was review bombed like hell on IMDb but then again, Long Long time was review bombed as well because its about a gay character

Lower, sure, but again, it also wasn't as good as the first and had a finale that left a bad taste in people's mouths. I would hardly call it a let down though.

I dont care that incels think shes too masculine, shes a big woman and her stature and physique is an important characteristic for her as a character, especially at the end of the game

Her mom had cancer for several years, but yes did die weeks before shooting began.

perhaps her mom began to take a turn for the worse earlier. but a few weeks doesnt seem like itd be enough to bulk up a significant amount.

Of course, I dont know and am just hypothesizing. Its awful she had to lose her mother so shortly before filming
