I remember at the tail end of Trumps first term a bunch Republicans were trying to distance themselves from him and MAGA, especially in the wake of Jan 6.

The phrase The right is eating itself was thrown around a lot.

Now it seems like the left (well, center-right) cant stop eating itself, except the Jan 6 is not sucking up to billionaires, establishment politicians and other members of the parasite class.

Yeah, I literally tried to look up what Mamdani said about Jews specifically and all I got was that he is very staunchly against anti-semitism but has opinions about Israel. What those opinions are, I don't know yet, but it sounds like he's not entirely favorable towards that nation-state right now.

I think people like Swalwell need to shut the fuck up about this if they're gonna be coy and not be specific about what they're talking about.

Let's call ti what it is: racism and bigotry against an Indian Muslim man who's made some errors but has been ultimately very well meaning and shows good faith.

It's always disgusting to see an establishment Democrat turn to the media to try to fend off someone they see as a threat from the left.

That same media will always carry water for Republicans vs. any Democrat, establishment or not.

the simple reason is the establishment democrats(And by extension the main stream media as a whole) want to keep moving the party to the right, it benefits them, their families and friends.... The only left leaning aspects they still have are being more open to accepting LGBTQ people but honestly they dont exactly fight hard for them

while on the other hand Zohran is an actual left wing candidate so they are afraid that if he and his policies do well and are popular it might start to reverse that shift to the right and bring on more and more proper left wing politicians to the democratic party and push the center right moderate democrats out and offer actual meaningful resistance to the republican far right agenda

Some of this is very transparent and I (and other Jewish Democrats) are very much taking notice of the gross cynicism.

Lies like this are pro-fascist and not materially different than Trump's gross "antisemitism" blitz

This reminds me of what happened in the UK when Jeremy Corbyn was elected leader of the Labour Party. He was consistently attacked by Labour's right wing and a campaign started which accused him of anti Semitism because he'd been a supporter of Palestine. Obviously it was all much more complex than this but it was nasty and his attackers succeeded in damaging his reputation despite the great support he had from younger people especially. In the end he lost the general election to Boris Johnson and more years of Tory chaos.

I hope Mamdani manages to fend off attacks on him.

Hell, the only thing he said was that he doesn't want to denounce it because it'd be policing language. I guess the fact that many Jews did vote for him means that it's not really as big of a deal as the Dems are making it out to be.

Almost every Democrat for decades has raised taxes on rich people.

Due to how little we tax low and middle income, as well as no VAT, the US has one of the more progressive tax rates for the low and middle income.

There is definitely room to increase taxes on millionaires and above though. As well as below... The idea that we shouldn't raise taxes on households making less than 400k was always stupid. A household making 350k is rich. Tax them more also.

Europe just taxes everyone of all income more, and we need to follow suit.

Before Trump though, I don't really agree with the idea that US (especially if you look at blue states) is significantly more right wing than many European countries, especially when it came to racial and trans rights. Many European countries are really bad in those regards

In general, Europe is more 'left' on things like UHC, the welfare state, and government regulation of business.

The US left is much more progressive in terms of social issues. Especially LGBT.

Both the US and Europe are horrific when it comes to immigration and nationalism.

With certain exceptions (N. Ireland comes to mind), religion does not have anything like the significance in European politics as it does in the US. Atheism is no barrier to election.

There are pathways to citizenship in the UK, but they are grotesquely restrictive, lengthy, and often expensive. I find the attitudes towards immigration here a disgrace, and would never defend them.

Hostility towards, and ill treatment of, these vulnerable people is a blight on any society.
