While I don't want the Democratic candidate in 2028 to be someone like Newsom if it is we should still rally behind him. Since you know us being divided while the other side was united and convinced people Trump was better (when he wasn't) is what led to this.

Fuck Newsom. I'm not supporting his campaign regardless of whoever else does. And hopefully after Hillary and Biden people understand that the people who say these things mean it. Hopefully Dems go with a less controversial choice.

To someone with a physical disability it is pretty important.

Is that all I got? Yeah. I dont like the guy. I think I knew better than to say something like that about a person when I was around 8. I think a person who makes that mistake is not great, even if you do know lots of trivia and that is pretty fun.

I dont require people to draw the same line as me for every public figure, but I hope it is ok that I get to draw my own.

Downplaying this kind of thing is typical of the societal reaction to people with disabilities, and it is beginning to get on my nerves after a lifetime of putting up with it. If Jennings had posted something offensive about any other minority group, it would have been a much bigger deal. Most people dont care about individuals with disabilities, so is that all you got is always what we get.

Yeah I've acknowledged it's shitty but I was wondering if it was a bad one-off joke that he might not be proud of later or if he has a history of saying similar things. Nobody's perfect with this sort of stuff. Lots of well respected and progressive individuals who diligently work to make the world better have said things that are softly bigoted like casual racism, sexism, or xenophobia. Im sure there are people you like who have made off-kilter remarks or even held problematic views.

I dont know you. Im sure you are a good person, and you seem to be approaching this in a thoughtful manner. But I respectfully disagree with how you are couching this.

This isnt soft or casual. It is about the worst thing you can say to someone with a physical disability. It is incredibly mean spirited. I respectfully suggest that the difference here is not what was said, or whether it was meant as a joke, or was a one off, but how much people generally care about disability related meanness. Which is generally very little, societally speaking.

Again: I am not here to draw lines for other people. People can like or not like who they want for whatever reason-the blessing and curse of being a public figure, I suppose. And I dont just think some of the public figures I like are crap people, or even people who arent crap who made a mistake-I know it for sure. I am not going to keep harping on this. It is fine if you dont agree.

But I will say this: If anyone said Nothing is sadder than followed by an attribute a person is born with or is out of their control, I would not be inclined to give that person the benefit of the doubt. Most decent people would know not to say such a thing, whether they are remorseful later or not. And I think it is pretty safe to say if it were characteristics other than disability, lots of people would be really offended.
