Still holding off as well. DK does look fun though, but I can easily wait. In the meantime, I bought one of those larger carry cases for the Switch, so I can store it in there for when I get a Switch 2 eventually and it'll stay safe and clean. Case was half off on walmart.

Okay played through every cup 150cc both single player and splitscreen. First of all, the music is fantastic but it needs two things: 1) customizable playlists. 2) an option for a thing to pop up when the music changes telling you the name of the track and the game of origin. The racing is fun, but not as hectic as I thought it would be. MK8 is infamous for random bullshit happening and ruining your victory like every single race. And I thought with 50% more racers that this would be kicked up a notch, and it just isnt. In fact the random bullshit seems dramatically toned down. Which isnt necessarily a bad thing, but if you have a big lead against the CPU, it can make frontrunning kind of boring sometimes. The long intermission tracks are just blegh and I wish GPs just had 4 three-lap races instead of driving to the next course and doing a single lap but counting it as 3 checkpoints along the way. Also I do not have NSO so I have not played online so maybe against 23 humans it does get crazy. I have not explored the world or touched knockout tour yet.

But theres other things I noticed, subtle mechanical differences. Things like no antigravity, so retro courses have been redesigned. You no longer drive underwater, instead your wheels turn into skis and you drove on top of the waves, so again some retro courses like Wario Shipyard are quite different. These arent necessarily bad changes, its just a different take on Mario Kart, which is probably what was needed after a freaking decade of Mario Kart 8.

I'm not really interested in giving Nintendo any money until they start caring about their consumers actual needs.

Have you tried the knockout races online yet? That gets so chaotic and is super fun.

Im replaying Mario Odyssey before I pick up Donkey Kong. First of all this game looks great in 4K and HDR. But also. God damn it hit me that I havent played this game in almost 8 years. It simultaneously feels like forever ago and not that long ago. Kinda making me want to pick up the BotW upgrade too.

The botw and totk "upgrades" feel like a scam to me. Especially the botw one, since they're too stingy to even add the old dlc in.

The music is one of my favourite things about free roam. Just driving around and chilling to remixes of classic Mario-adjacent music is pretty awesome.

They're a video game company. If you're looking to satisfy consumers' actual needs, you might want to look at companies that provide things like food and housing.

There's literally only one Switch 2 game worth playing right now, and its barely worth playing at that. Its MK World of course.

Nevermind I guess that donkey kong game came out too, which is probably far superior to MK World.

Theres also the entire Switch 1 library. Many games got enhancement patches or just run better on the new hardware regardless. And, you know, obviously there will be more games for years to come.

Yeah, that was my reasoning in picking one up now. I wouldn't have bought a system just for Mario Kart, and buying one just for DK was a stretch (though it's much closer to system-seller territory), but I know we'll be seeing more Xenoblade and Zelda in the future and those are system-sellers for me, plus an assortment of other games that have already been announced as exclusive and/or that I'd rather play on a console. Odds are, the system won't see a meaningful price drop by the time the library has grown more, so there's no real reason for me to wait.

I do, however, suspect that we might be seeing a price drop for Mario Kart. This is entirely speculation, but I think pricing it at $80 might have been a decision made to encourage people to pick up the limited-time bundle and get it for $50 instead, driving early system sales with that opportunity to save $30. It won't surprise me at all if, once they discontinue the bundle and that incentive no longer applies, they drop it down to $70 to drive further sales. But I guess we'll see.

Depends on if you like racing games or not. I like Mario Kart enough but the only reason I have 7 was because it came with my Switch. Barely played it too.

I dont understand the whole Rainbow Road Returns! Thing in the credits. I didnt know it went anywhere? This seems to imply that its some kind of natural phenomenon that the people of the Mushroom Kingdom dont fully understand. Hence why they probably have a space program now.

The idea that this strange celestial phenomenon happens from time to time without explanation and their first recourse is to drive go-karts on it is kind of funny.

Exclusive? Not that's actually out yet. I think Kirby's Air Riders is the next major exclusive on the horizon, if I'm remembering correctly that it's a 2025 release. I'm personally waiting for a sale on Fantasy Life to pick up the Switch 2 version of that so it runs better than the Switch 1 version, but that's multiplat.

Been playing Super Mario Odyssey. I havent played this game in almost 8 years. What an absolute joy of a game. Been long enough that I forgot pretty much everything about it. Im almost done with it. I have 840-something moons. Other than like 5 or 6 achievement moons, and the hit the volleyball 100 times moon, I have all of them pre-Dark Side. Gonna try to finish it tomorrow. I dont think Im gonna buy all the store moons or all the costumes. Arent there like 1000 store moons in the postgame or something? Not worth it. Just wanted to replay this one before picking up Bananza.

880 moons acquired! Every music, capture and souvenir too. I did read that if you put 999 moons into the Odyssey and beat the game that a couple things change. Might do that. Not gonna buy all the costumes, thats too much coin grinding.

There's a theoretically infinite amount, but getting to 999 moons requires you to buy a minimum of like 110 or 120. If memory serves, I did it without any dedicated coin grinding (I did have to do like an hour of grinding to get all the remaining costumes), but it's been a long time and I don't remember what nuance was involved in that.

I beat DK on Friday and have been working through getting all the bananas there. It's a good time.

Okay 1000 moons deposited. It would take 87,198 coins to buy the rest of the costumes and hats. Yeah Im good.

Aaaand harder final boss defeated! It wasnt that much harder lol. Fantastic game, cant believe it took me this long to return to it. Also I wonder if that final sequence was the inspiration for Bananza playing as a big character with a girl your back and smashing through everything in your path. In SMO case its Bowser and Peach, in Bananza its DK and Pauline.

They don't explicitly say that the final sequence inspired destruction-centric gameplay, but their earliest experiments with it consisted of attaching Knucklotec's arms to a Goomba.

Downloaded the Adventures of Elliot demo. This is kinda neat. Kind of Secret of Mana. Kind of Zelda. A lot more combat focused than puzzles though, at least so far.

Finished the Adventures of Elliot demo. Eager to play more of this! Very fun little action game.

But, more importantly, Donkey Kong Bananza acquired! Time to start it!

I'm debating whether or not to go for the true 100% in Bananza. As of like an hour ago, I've gotten every banana, fossil, record, and costume, so all that's left is maxing out the skill tree. That, unfortunately, requires a substantial number of banana purchases (like 75ish). The coin grinding to do that won't be bad, but bananas have to be purchased one at a time and play the animation every time, and I don't know if I care enough to subject myself to that ("Oh, banana!" still hasn't gotten old, but that's going to be a long time spent mindlessly mashing A). I'm really missing Odyssey's "buy 10 moons" option.

Oh my God, this game. I had to force myself to stop playing and go to bed. Holy crap. Im just going to wake up in 5 hours and play more lol

I punch the wall and money comes out and my brain releases the happy fun time chemicals :)
