Well, um... It looks more like you dipped your nails into paint than painted your nails.
Also, I don't care for painting the nails, so I am biased.

Honestly, you went way outside of the nails. It's like a coloring book. Work inside the lines. In this case, on the nail and less so on the fingers.

As with everything, practice makes perfect. As they say, a journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. Keep practicing. It's not good but you can only get better from here every time you try it.

It's a little messy. Ya gotta go slow and careful with the brush. You can probably take some nail polish remover and a paper towel and carefully dab at your skin to remove the extra now.

You can also use some tape to cover up the skin around your nails in the future. Though it's kinda tough to do with any precision on your own hands. Or get some liquid latex I think it is? Never tried it, but I've heard it recommended before.

Mine looks like that too sometimes if I don't use enough toilet paper.

2/10 for effort. Might I suggest this the next time you decide to paint outside the lines? But seriously. One thing I've learned from both my and my sisters goth phase as well as that brief time I had to use medical nail polish to fix a fungal infection, is that less is more. You don't need a ton of polish. Whatever amount you think you need, scrape the inside of the bottle as the brush is coming up, so its only a thin layer. Less chance for dripping.

Yeah you can def clean up outside the nails with a q-tip or brush dipped in acetone. Some ppl just paint really messy and touch up afterwards since its easier than painting carefully.

Some people I know just paint all around the nail then clean up the polish outside the nail after. Seems to look pretty good. Maybe try that?

It looks like you overloaded the brush, wipe the brush on the inside of the bottle to remove excess next time - also as already mentioned use a cotton bud dipped in nail polish to get rid of the polish outside the nails, you can also wait until it's completey dry then gently scrub with a nail brush and soap in warm water

tip for faster drying, run cold water over your nails, you can also buy a spray that can help dry them faster

The colour is nice but it looks very matte, it would look better shiny, you can get top coats for this which also help seal the colour in and reduce chipping

Less is more, but everyone's gotta start somewhere. That said, everyone who is good at anything just spent enough time to no longer be bad. You will get there.

keep practicing! get some acetone for remover and it'll wipe off like magic!

Literally how I shave my neck. Start with the outline and then go crazy.

My advice is to go much slower. Take your time with it. If you're in a rush? Just wait until you're not and have the time to commit.

A real Ghoul type of look, I love it. Long as you have the matching costume for Halloween it'll scare the pants off of people.

That is not a good job. Looks like you tried to do it way too fast. Take your time and do it carefully.

For some (hopefully) useful advice, I'd try and almost brace the hand doing the painting on the hand being painted. That way even if you shake a little it shouldn't mess you up.

Less is absolutely more. If you need more coverage, you could simply do another coat.

Doing your dominant hand will basically always be more difficult simply because you have to use your off hand to do it.

Ultimately, experiment a little with techniques! If you make a mistake, you can just remove it and start again.

Yeah, I went too fast my first time. Really underestimated how much care you need to not get it all over your skin.

Quite possibly, but I'd honestly just ignore the ones you see as judgemental. I'll be blunt, it's not a great first attempt, but that's all it is. Most people aren't good at things the first time they try them. As with your other topic, the trick is to not get discouraged and try again, ideally with some new approaches.

Ultimately, it's just paint on your nails. I don't say that to be demeaning, it's just not that deep or worth people getting bent out of shape for. It's meant to be fun, so have fun!

Your getting better, just a bit of clean-up and it'll look fine.

This topic makes me want to paint my nails again, but they keep breaking before they're a decent length and shape.

Looks much better. Use a q-tip with acetone to scrape off the edges around your nail.
