I played Hollow Knight this year and I liked it well enough, but it's interesting to me how much anticipation there is for this expansion-turned-sequel. Happy for you guys it's finally coming out at least

Yeah, I really enjoyed Hollow Knight, but I don't understand the levels of hype for silksong. It doesn't look to be doing anything above what I would expect from a sequel. I'm guessing it's just the length of time and amount of radio silence has made it almost mythical.

Idk if Id put it above the giants, but I think it definitely stands alongside them. The game has a ton of content but I was glued to it until I fully completed everything

I might be one of the few but I don't like how there's a lot of content. What made games like Super Metroid and SotN is that they're not too long. Hollow Knight takes too long for a metroidvania, imo.

This is exactly my main issue with it, it's just too long for what it is. As far as indie Metroidvanias go, gimme Guacamelee.

Still looking forward enough to Silksong, mind you, but it's definitely not a day 1 purchase.

I never thought about it before, but... the only thing I can come up with that would make either of those better than HK is seniority.

No real spoilers

- Go at your own pace like any other Metroidvania. If you are blocked off/ can't reach a area, head elsewhere

- Your first important purchase should be the Gathering Swarm charm. This allows you gather money without having to touch it, as it will be brought to you. Saves a ton of time and p much allows you to advance without having to pick up every penny manually

- 2nd most important purchase is the lamp. It's pricy, but it's worth it for navigating super dark areas. Or you can end up like me, going thru hell for like 3 hours

- Prepare to die a lot. The game isn't super hard until post game, but a lot of bosses will mess you up, until you win. Looking for opportunities to heal and avoiding getting hit for as long as possible while in attack range is best policy vs bosses. Honestly if you can avoid getting hit for a minute vs a boss, you can beat them.

After I finished the PoP I finally got around to playing Celeste just to get a glimpse of the same platforming hell. Silksong's PoP equivalent has been one of my most anticipated things about it ever since.

the game in general of course but also the new endgame bosses, maybe a godhome equivalent has to wait until dlc though.

I think its cool how the devs were like "we weren't in development hell, we were having too much fun developing the game" lol game might actually exceed expectations.

Im not sure what it is, but I cant seem to get into Hollow Knight. I think maybe the issue is that theres too much backtracking to the point the game becomes tedious. Im not sure if I should give the game another shot or not, eh.

It had such a chaotic dev cycle, I am not expecting anything other than mediocracy.

Hopefully I am pleasantly surprised and it will live up to the original.

Well than I will be glad to be wrong... I just don't want to hype my expectations and ruin the game for myself.

So long as you go in expecting a solid game, you'll be fine.

I think my initial playthrough hit right around 45 hours, with opening the final boss door around hour 35+

I think I gave the game a 8.5, but doing the 2nd and beyond playthroughs + postgame/Godhome brought it up to a 9, and into one my favorite games ever.

Honestly if the game can stay in a Greenpath/City of Tears/Soul Sanctum tier of gameplay, it'll be great

Thank you my friend. I had started a playthrough of it a while ago and got back to it totally lost so I started anew

Nope, they didn't want to prioritize reviewers over the backers so no review copies
